Just a question for the Dees supporters.

I've been having a look around the various footy sites about the reaction to the Roosters stand re: the Motlop situation. As I don't generally go into other teams footy forums believing that it's a bit of a sacred domain I thought I'd pose the question here as there seems to be a bit of leeway with opposition supporters posting on your site.

From listening to SEN down here there seemed to be a bit of sympathy to our situation from Melbourne supporters who rang through, but on having a geek at Demon org I saw that we were referred to as a second rate pub team & should have no say whatsoever in what happens with Motlop, even though he was a contracted player & it's way to late to replace him.

My situation is that I view the AFL with interest but support North Adelaide with a passion, I have a few AFL teams that I fancy, Melbourne being one of them due to four of our players now being recruited there.

So, were we being pedantic demanding a payout for one of our top five players, or, in your view, did we have the right to stand firm for a decent compensation for losing a contracted player ?

Not pedantic at all.

The soccer leagues in England have a rule safe guarding against the bigger clubs poaching young guns from smaller sides for next to nothing. It's more complicated than that, but it's sort of the same situation here. Motlop was probably the best player in your line up, and to lose him hurts big time. Being compensated was only fair, especially with him already signed up to your club.

Thanks Cowboy, yeah it does hurt our lineup, but on the plus side there's a clause in his contract to come back to the Roosters after his AFL days are numbered. We've also picked up a couple of Aboriginal lads who are very Davey like in their showings so far, recommended by Motlop Senior. Shannon & Adriens little brother is also with us.

No one at North begrudges Shannon another chance in the big league, well not the supporters I know anyway. North were always going to get the arse end of the deal, if we played too hard ball we'd have a disgruntled player & family, & a few players looking sideways at the hireachy if they were in the same position, & if we just handed him over for the 5k the members would have kicked up in a big way.

So in the long run, good luck to Shannon, young Rivers, Mark Jamar (he'll come good) & Ben Holland, we're all very keen to see them succeed in the AFL & hopefully come home to finish their playing career with the Chooks.

Yeah, I feel sorry for the North Adelaide boys, they'll cop it sweet missing one of their best players, with practically no time to replace him. However, this is footy I guess. It is every footballers dream to play AFL and if Motlop gets given another chance, why would he not take it?
Just a question, anyone know if we/how much we compensated North Adelaide for him?

Don't forget this is a club that almost went bust a few seasons ago, and Motlop is probably their star attraction, and a huge reason they turned everything around and made the finals last season.

Thanks again fellas. Motlop was in our top five last year, he was injured for a time & took a little time to hit his peak. We will of course miss him, but to their credit the board recruited well last year & we have pretty good depth after turning around the financial side of things, were now one of the richest clubs along with Centrals & West due to increased revenue with a new pokie machine venture saving us, so the money we held out for was, I would think, not sorely needed but compensation for costs to relocate Shannon last year.

The word around the traps is that we wanted 75k for him, The Dees offered 5k so obviously there was a bit of discrepency there. A board member I did a landscaping job for last week reckoned that we got 45k for Motlop, that could be why both parties kept it silent as they both had to save a bit of face.

In the washup no bridges were burnt, Motlop & family are happy, Dees got their player, North got enough to recruit a good player next year, & relations between the two clubs are viable for future talks re: drafting players in the future.

Now just don't us down & lose to Essendon next week, you've got a lot of us at Roosterland watching the Dees with renewed interest now.

Marns....I can guarantee you we have no problem attracting crowds to OUR games. Certainly one player doesnt bring em in. Money is not a problem either with a $500,000 + profit last year (the Dees would sell there collective mothers for a fifth of that profit).
For my money I dont think Motlop will make too big an impact, (however I said that about Rivers as well  ) but I wish him the best for the coming season and hope to see him back in red and white soon (next year).

Would we also have to trade our spot in the national competition to you and play in a pub league? We'll be right.

I'm sure if we had the turnover of the Roosters we would have lost many millions of dollars too.

Good to see our team (MFC) is recruiting from the "pub" league!!

My reply was in return for the condesending remarks by Marns:

" Hope you guys can get someone to attract the crowds and someone who'll make it worth your while."

I was simply pointing out that we dont need any help with regards crowds or finance to "make it worth our while".

We are doing quite nicely thank you. ;)

Condesending? Pfft.

Everyone except yourself saw that his post was good natured. Someone is a little touchy.

And yes, you are a pub team, who paid some of their "500,000" profit (yeah, right) to attract a good player in Motlop.

Motlop was drafted from North Adelaide to the Kangaroos, we didnt have to pay anything for him. In fact the Kangas and MFC have both paid us for his services. Thanks for propping up the pub!!

And which part of the $500,000 profit bit dont you understand?

NORTH ADELAIDE's spectacular fightback was not confined to the field with the Roosters declaring a $511,985 combined operating profit at the AGM last night.

It'll be interesting to see how Shannon fits in at Melbourne. I had some time for him at North, he has something about him. I'm not expecting miracles though, he could be the icing on the cake.

The Roosters seem to have taken this well & good luck them. They've been good to us with the players we've got from them.
