Saw the game - was blowing a gale down one end so standard not too good.

Both teams did not have their Metro/Country players in - think that Chargers had 7 out including Tyson and Greene who are guns. Rebels had quite a few out too.
Chargers had a few privates back in due to school hols.

Thought it was even all day - Rebels taller and stronger but Chargers were moving the ball better.

Chargers kicked far too many pts witht the wind to keep the Rebels in it - but Rebels defence was tight and tough causing a lot of these points.

Chargers got to 14 pts up at the 19 minute mark of the last 1/4 (quarter went only 23 minutes) - Rebels kicked 3 goals in 3 minutes to win, fairly reasonable effort.

If they meet in the Finals I think it will come down to the quality of the Metro and Country players as the 22 running around last weekend were fairly even.

Yeah Rebels were missing a fair few.

Neade, Crouch, Ross, O'Brien, Schache, Gordon, Pomorin, Simpson, Drew are all best 22 players when fit, with the first 6 listed their unavailable due to State commitments.

Looks like the rebels had quite a few out. I think chargers were missing quite a lot as well. should be a close match come finals

JETS BLASTS REBELS

North Ballarat Rebels 4.3 5.5 7.10 11.11 (77)
Western Jets 2.5 5.8 12.9 16.11 (107)

Todays game at the Eureka Stadium saw a flat, laclustre North Ballarat Rebels outfit monstered by a resurgent Wetern Jets. Whilst this is not the Rebels biggest losing margin for this season, it certainly was their worse loss for 2011. Particularly as they were fighting to hold on to a top 4 spot, heading into the final series. However it was the hardworking and highly skilled Western Jets who announced themselves as a real finals contneder. It took them a quarter to come to terms with Ballarat's gusty wind and from then on they owned the game.

The hallmark of the Rebels this year has been a 'Shinboner' style of hardness, a willingness for the contest, a disciplined maintenance of structure & strict adherance to the game plan. Given the above, the dissapointment from todays game comes not so much from the loss itself, but the nature of it. It seemed to me that the Jets were probably winners in all aspects of the game, not simply the scoreline. They worked harder, they were smarter, they played team football and to this added some individual brilliance.

During 2011 the Rebels half backs have been their best performed line, infact they have been outstanding for most of the season. But today didn't belong to them, this is the first game I have seen well them beaten, and today they were spanked. Until now they seemed to have coped well without Brad Crouch, missing since being injured in the National Carnival. Crouch's absence today however seemed to create a big hole across the HBL, that could not be filled. Wave after wave of Jets strafed their goals (in blustery conditions for the most part, the Jets shooting fo goal was deadly accurate)

Good decsion making and ball skills gave the Jets the ascendency across the ground, but they also ruled the skies. The Jets marked well in both uncontested (as you would expect) and contested situations, and were particularly good overhead. The Rebels didn't mark badly, but it was more that the ball was not being delivered to them in the same manner, as it was to their counterparts. Poor disposal by the Rebels across all areas of the ground and thoughout all four quarters, proved critical to the outcome of the game. The Jets applied intense 'September' like pressure and the Rebels inability to deliver the ball under such duress, ultimately proved fatal. Their poor ball use was probably most evident in their forward 50 entries. They denied themselves many potential goal scoring opportunies & made it way too easy for the Jets defenders, blasting in long bombs that rarely hit targets. Rebels high marking forwards such as O'brien & Dobson were infrequently isolated by their teamates, to create a 1 on 1 contest. The fast leading forwards like Watchorn and Nead scarcely seemed to have their leads honored, rarely if ever was the ball placed out in front of them, allowing them to run onto it. This game would have been much closer had Rebels players lowered their eyes, and kicked to the advantage of which ever teamate was providing the best option at the time.

With some good players to come back for the finals, such as Sebastion Ross (who played as 23rd man for the North Ballarat Roosters) Will Pomorin and Brad Crouch (both with breaks). And if the status quo of pre round 14, of effort and form is retained, then at seasons end, maybe we can look back on todays game as an aberration (maybe the boys might even get the oppotunity to reverse the result) .
