NORTH Melbourne has been slapped with a $20,000 fine for not complying with an AFL investigation.

"It is extremely concerning that North Melbourne failed to fully cooperate at all times with this investigation into a serious matter involving the welfare of one of its players," Anderson said in a statement.

"Whilst there was no finding that there was any attempt to deliberately mislead investigators, North Melbourne now accepts that its conduct at times was not at a standard acceptable to an AFL investigation."

Bit of a joke really. The AFL find no wrong doings and still fine a struggling club $20,000.

Where do the AFL expect the money to come from? I hope it's not from their Box On deb reduction efforts as it would set them back a fair bit.

Adrian Anderson at it again o_O

From my understanding, the doctors cleared him of anything serious. I think it was 3 times that Brad asked them if he was okay to go. I guess we may never find out but all I know is that it was the best thing to happen to him all year. Played twice as good afterwards.

More to the point: "“We are satisfied no one involved in the investigation deliberately misled, lied or influenced any witnesses to be untruthful in the statements, evidence or correspondence,” Vale added."

What are we being fined for then?

What part of this is a joke? North failed to fully cooperate with an AFL investigation thus they received a fine. Seems rather straight forward to me, also half of the fine is suspended for 3 years so seems fair. North only have themselves to blame.

I guess there'll be no new training balls next year.

In all seriousness, very much a deserved fine. You can't have the club deliberately dragging it's feet, and have snide remarks and resistance from players over investigations such as these - particularly when the intent of the rule in the first place is to protect them from long term damage.

North themselves have apologised for it, and the best thing for it would be for them to quickly and quietly move on - you wouldn't want to see the vocal minority on here trying to argue it was anything but justified.

Surely if North have the right to not fully cooperate with the AFL, as long as nothing serious is being hidden, sounds like they were just making sure they knew all the facts before letting the AFL get involved. The AFL is starting to sound like a dictatorship!

Not a shock. The north boys club has often led to trouble, and north often fail to comprehend the rules, like now, or like when they couldn't comprehend Ziebell's suspension. The most suspicious everyone is out to get me' club in the league.
Not one person in their right mind could understand Ziebell's suspension. That was the MRPs darkest hour.

I think our club was pissed off with the AFL because the AFL were summoning players to attend urgent investigation interviews at the end of the week in the lead up to a games late in the season. We then got pissed off because these urgent harassment of our players lead to no decision and dragged on for months and we got shirty with the AFL.

AFL got pissed off with our doctor, who works in a hospital when not doing our games, for being busy dealing with patients in a busy hospital and didn't make an ultra urgent investigator meeting. He was found doing nothing wrong, followed the AFL concussion protocol which has more holes in it than swiss cheese.

Hansen was never diagnosed with concussion. Not during the game in question, not after the game, not weeks after despite consecutive head blows, he was just rested because he had blurred vision and we wanted to take a precaution, well beyond the requirements of the AFL concussion protocols.

AFL not upset with clubs who failed to diagnose players who did suffer concussion, were sent back out and lodged medical reports that the player suffered concussion, ie as Carlton did amongst many other incidents.

You are just fined if you have a pissy attitude with the way the AFL handles stuff.

So what you're saying is that it should be ok for clubs to behave in an utterly unprofessional manner purely because they dont like what the AFL is asking of them and then not be punished?

Our players were made available for interview, as was the club doctor and everyone else they wanted to talk to. We are under no obligation to have a smile on our face while the AFL sodomises us.

This wasn't an urgent matter, it could have and should have been left until the end of the season. If the AFL can wait 3 years before investigating Melbourne, they could hold out a couple of weeks to look into ALL the concussion related issues.

There was never anything to be gained by acting petulantly towards the AFL. Petrie telling the ABC he had seen Hansen sprew - only to later retract that, was bizarre.

I like watching North, but the attitude of those at the club - as well as its supporters - leaves me cold.

This would have been avoided if they'd cooperated with the investigation in the first place. Pretty silly by North really.
What more did the AFL want??

AFL: "Was Hanson sent back on with concussion?"

Roos "No"

AFL "Are you sure?"

Roos "Yes"

AFL " We don't belive you - Hanson looks groggy"

Roos "That is his normal dopey look"

AFL "You are not being very helpful - give us $20,000"

The AFL are IDIOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Presumably delays or something trivial. Proivided it wasn't going to get in the way player preperation for matches or place ludicrous demands on people, a small fine is probably fair enough. The AFL won't want clubs dragging their heels on any sort of investigation it is doing.
Its really a nothing story either way.

He never made a statement to the AFL about Hansen spewing. He had a radio interview where he made that comment. He isn't obliged to tell the media anything absolutely truthful, if players were then there would be fines going out every single day. He is obliged to tell the AFL the truth. I would put more stock in a sworn statement than something he said on the radio.

AFL weren't happy that what he had sworn to witnessing himself was different to comments he said on the radio. They would have been happier if he lied to the AFL?

Besides the point, players throw up a lot. They take in a lot of fluid for hydration purposes and drinking that much can make you want to throw up under a lot more circumstances than you would normally. Running a lot will make you want to throw up if you drink the volume of liquid AFL players do. That combined with things you eat can have a volatile effect on you. I think Petrie wanted to express that Hansen had busted a gut after getting pole-axed, he had a ripper of a game after that event.

I am not sure it is an attitude thing. Our concussion protocols are a joke, there are a lot of genuine concussed players out there that don't look like they know what planet they are on who are left out on the ground and are visibly not right. Hansen showed no signs of being concussed. Our coach asked our doctor more than once if he was 100% sure he was okay because he wasn't prepared to risk his health and safety.

We had a lot of genuine concussion nightmare incidents this year and the AFL didn't look at any of them, we have a pretty good reason to be miffed for being singled out on an incident that wasn't a genuine concussion.

Ummm no. North lied to the AFL and gave conflicting evidence. They have been subsequently fined. You should be happy, it was only $20k and half suspended.

God I hate generalisations like this.

Well Firstly: This is not a Joke, If a team don't play by the Rules there has to be a penalty, Secondly: You guys are not struggling, You's made the 8 didn't you?
