South Korea Suggests 2022 World Cup Games in North Korea

South Korea’s bid to host the 2022 World Cup contains plans to play some of the matches in North Korea, according to a report due to be released today.

The results of the bidding are due to be announced on December 2nd, when FIFA will reveal the names of the hosts of both the 2018 and 2022 competitions. South Korea is competing with Australia, Japan, Qatar and the U.S. for the right to host the latter event.

Always said that if South Korea and North Korea were to reunify, it would be a very powerful selling point in convincing FIFA to award World Cup 2022.

I don't see FIFA going for this though as South Korea are not officially jointly hosting it nor are they officially reuninting as one nation. It would be a bit like USA throwing a couple of games Canada's way (without Canada's football team competing in the World Cup) and claiming a "legacy" from the event.

I severely doubt diplomatic relations between North & South Korea will allow this anyway. If I remember rightly North Korea banned coverage of World Cup 2002 and held their own events to try and upstage their southern cousins.

I was wondering about that too - the Canadian cities,
but then Australia's map has Alice Springs, Broome etc - - which I presumed might be regarded as ...... training bases????

Hotel capacity?????

No idea really, Broome ain't handy to anywhere involved in the bid!!!

None of them are going to be used for hosting World Cup fixtures. Possibly used as a training base for some teams although nobody knows how FIFA will view that.

Heck, if the US is claiming Canada/Mexico let's claim Indonesia & the entire population of Oceania!!!
