After round 8, 2025 we have one win and a percentage of 76%.

It’s maddeningly slow progress, but the percentage improvement is something.

Need to aim for 6+ wins and a percentage of 80% for the year.

Yes, occasionally as in real life, the rolls of the dice, the constant kneecapping challenges mount up and you throw your arms up.

Following north certainly feels that way this decade- just see the rock bottom thread keeps restarting off every unexpectedly low new low. If we're all honest, tell each week you don't try to convince yourself "THIS will be the week we finally see something real"?

Yet it almost never happens.

But we all dust off and end up back in here eventually, bickering like a bunch of oldies at a bocce club.

On the bright side, this whole experience has given me the opportunity to look inward and examine what the hell is going on inside me. A lot of the time, it’s not very pretty. I have to accept that there’s some serious flaws within myself to end up being so bound up in something that is, essentially, of no importance, really. It is what it is, though - I accept that. I do try to be a bit more circumspect about everything. The euphoria I felt after flogging the Demons was an incredible feeling. I know I wasn’t alone. The subsequent realisation that it was a false dawn was almost crippling. Having said all that, I just “know” it’s going to turn around soon and very quickly.

I’ve literally started a seperate North Supporters group messenger chat because I was so sick of wading through all the crap on here.
We still highlight the ongoing issues, but it’s at least often with a glass half full mentality.

There's an alternate universe out there where we're sitting 3-5 (Melb, Port, Ess=wins) or 4-4 (Dogs=win) and everyone is over the moon with our progress from last year.

Unfortunately, we live in this universe, where we haven't been able to put together 4 quarters and there are some key errors made at important moments that let us down and so we sit 1-7.

Conflicted after last night. There is absolutely no doubt we bottled it and we should have won. We were clearly the better team after quarter time and controlled the game - just like we did against Port last week. We didn't control it because they were down men either - we were clearly on top in the 2nd and 3rd while they had a full bench and things were on an equal playing field - once they were down men in the last, we should have taken over - we didn't.

Easiest thing right now is to let emotion and frustration take over and suggest nothing's changed. Reality is, we're clearly better than we have been for years, and games are there to be won.

Love that Maley and Hardeman looked really good. Love that Duursma had some moments and can hopefully continue to build his confidence. Love that we controlled the game without two of our best five(three?) players in PC and Wardlaw - one of which will likely be in next week, and PC not too long after.

Frustrated but not without hope - we're in games and they're there to be won, which we haven't been able to say for a long time.

Quite possibly. But maybe it's one of those things where you have to embed the structures and knowledge and it's a bit shit for a while, and then you release them to play on instinct and the structures are second nature.
I say this more in hope than certainty!

I often wondered if that '14-'16 era of soul sucking overly complicated defensive gameplan had a positive impact on our run from '17-'20. If pressed I would say no, they were just wasted years.
Either way the good news is it didn't have any negative effects once changed.

I can't stress enough that the mood around this place is the runoff from what players put out. It probably sounds egotistical but this is a ****ing hardcore group of fans, who still feel the effects of the shitness, almost against their will. I've stayed to the end at one Melbourne game this year, because the others were causing anguish, pain and more anguish. And yet I can't stop myself from returning. Because what if they decide to turn up this time and not look like someone plucked a bunch of random blokes off the street and told them to don the same guernseys?

What you do is your prerogative, and if you've found something that works for you, that's obviously a good thing, but if this place wasn't an 'absolute cesspool of negativity,' I'd be questioning the sanity of everyone here. I've looked at AFLTables and worked out the shitness five year records. I'm scared to do the six year records, lest we move into second place behind only a team containing a bloke who won one game in his 73-game career
