As a kid getting pumped by them year after year and then watching them flags in 68, 70, 72, this was a favourite of mine. Melrose B.O.G.

Best game of the 90s

Only thing watching these is, how didn't we win flags in 93 & 94
94, we all know. But 93 was there for the taking.

94, we all know. But 93 was there for the taking.

Injuries, fatigue and inexperience.

Longmire did his knee in the last round, Laidley got suspended, Carey & Rock were just going. After such a poor pre-season we sprinted hard out of the blocks but the field swamped us at the end. And we had no experience on that sort of stage and a team like West Coast just killed us.

It was an odd year. The Saints finished 12th but were only 3.5 games from top spot. Only three teams finished with less that a 50% record. We failed to beat anyone but those three teams in the last two months of the season.

But it was an excellent year. Standards were set quickly, players who had stagnated found their potential and it was an important stepping stone for things to come.

An amazing day to be at the football. Apart from grand final wins, this is the best game of footy I have seen live despite the loss.
