Data from footywire. To check the draft order see the thread here.

Footywire says: "While we make every effort to keep up to date with player contracts, it is likely that our data may at times be out of date, incomplete or inaccurate. If you find any player contracts that need updating, please let us know using our brand new contract submission form."

I’ll bet you a year of premium that we finish better than 3rd last. Coming from someone pessimistic about our chances.

Be surprised, maybe 4th last but under no circumstances should you sell your f1. Still like a few of your players, don't see one bad year a bad thing anyway, get a gun mid next year.

Bahahaha… oh sweet then because I rated Murphy Reid the 3rd best player in the draft so I guess that means freo got the third best talent for p17!!!

Now off to find that “who won the 2024 draft thread” so I can I let everyone know!
That would be a fair analogy if you were our recruiter and not a random on Big Footy.

FWIW they had him 10th ranked.

Now why we had him ranked 10 and other clubs had him ranked so much later. That’s really the big risk. If we got it wrong.

That is actually how the big board for each team works.

If mock draft rankings actually mattered, then North lost big time!
I have actually been lucky enough to be at an event that an afl recruiter went through their draft rankings post draft and explained how they approach it.

They have their own rankings and that’s all they consider and look at. Now the danger is ranking wrong particularly when we are a club that is a bit low on resources in that department.

The numbers, big footy won/lost stupid stuff isn’t taken into consideration.

My friend didn’t you spend a month telling me it won’t be pick 4 and you expected north to shoot up the ladder?

Like we argued about it for ages.

lol

Well at least you’re happy mate
Extremely happy

If i had mentioned pick #18+#20 for your F1 i would have been slaughtered on this site by the north supporters
Goes to show there was a reason why Blair Hartley knocked back #6 + #11 for #2 + F1

But Matt Whitlock is a great kid and looked extremely excited to get selected and hope he has a fantastic career
Too Bad you cant trade players that just got drafted so you could pair the twins together

So Caleb Daniel’s was affectively traded for a future first …

We keep hearing from north fans that North rated M Whitlock higher than other teams (15th best player) and therefore he actually IS the 15th best player, and it's this metric of norths that its that matters in evaluating the deal as it stands today.

This is nonsense.

Surely their is only one version of the truth, and that's he is rated today much much later. Consider:-
  • No club wanted him until pick 27.
  • He was rated behind his brother who was taken at pick 33.
  • The general consensus pre-draft was he wasn't rated until the late 20s to late 30s.

The bloke hasn't played a game, he could be anything, if he is a great swingman he's worth every cent. They still shouldn't have traded 25 for Daniel but in isolation this trade have no issues with. Great to see they are finally backing themselves rather than having a safety net of a high first rounder next year. Good on North.

Think it's important to seperate the player from the trade. Basically the team could of positioned themselves a lot better in the lead up so they had more picks in the 20s to grab this type of player.

The Caleb Daniel stuff reads really badly for Rawlings and his team now.

Surely they would of really been able to work the phones in trade week to swap that future first for multiple picks in the 20s in this strong draft.

That makes no sense at all.

You can't evaluate a trade based on pre-draft consensus.

The pre-draft consensus was the Chad Warner was a relatively one-paced player with a suspect kick.

Is that how you evaluate whether it was worth the Swans paying pick 39 for him?

The only metric that matters is whether Matt Whitlock becomes a player worth the pick paid for him. We won't know that for years.

While this is true, beema has a point that the value of the pick can be more fairly evaluated, whether it was a reach or a slide. Considering Jack was rated higher by pretty much everyone, I do think North could have got Matt a bit later.
