As are the rules, as you acknowledge.

The rules have changed many times.

And as the rules stand, picks are given at the discretion of the Commission.

So there's nothing stopping one being given this year.

OK so using your "logic" Carlton should get a priority pick because they haven't played finals since 2013 and tHe RuLeS cAn ChAnGe.

There is no logical argument for North Melbourne to receive a priority pick this year. And that almost certainly won't change at the end of next year if North have a similarly poor season.

It's that simple.

The only thing stopping us finishing bottom is the fact we beat the bottom side.

If we'd played Adelaide later in the year they would have beaten us and we'd bottom.

2020 ... 17th

2019 ... 12th

2018 ... 9th

2017 ... 15th

These are numbers that warrant the assistance given to other clubs.
No they’re not. 2 years ago you nearly made finals. Some teams spend several years down the bottom of the ladder.

It took nearly a decade of mediocrity for the AFL to take action with the Suns, and that’s only because they’re a franchise club that the league can’t afford to have fail. North are more likely to be relocated to Hobart before they get a priority pick.

It's just a little odd that next to no assistance was granted to Gold Coast in 2018 when Carlton finished below them with a worse record of finishes the last four years, yet only one year later they receive a raft of Priority Picks never seen before. They still have one in hand for next year.
Wonder how that came about? :)

North Melbourne - No Priority Pick for you.

Given we're never being relocated to Tassie or anywhere, false.

North results last few years ...

2020 ... 17th

2019 ... 12th

2018 ... 9th

2017 ... 15th

These are numbers that reflect such a move is appropriate imo.

Why do you think 4 years of results like that is an appropriate threshold?

Saints

2013 = 16th
2014 = 18th
2015 = 14th
2016 = 9th
2017 = 11th
2018 = 16th
2019 = 14th

No priority picks, and never even a discussion about one, let alone a serious consideration.

You’re in for another 3+ years of these finishes before a priority pick should (and would) be considered. And the AFL should not expedite this process because North set fire to their list; this in and of itself is a component of bad list management, not the impetus for a priority pick.

St KIlda should have got one in this time.

There's different rules for different teams on this stuff.

LOL no way on God's Green Earth do North get a Priority Pick

If they want to go for the scorched Earth policy fine, but they should not expect or beg for handouts, because they have finally decided to have the guts to finally embrace a full rebuild after years of medicine drafting and Trading so as not to bottom out.
North Melbourne do not deserve any special treatment whatsoever. They can rebuild like the likes of us, Brisbane and St Kilda have in the past 5-8 years.

No.More.Priority.Picks.

Survive on your own without AFL assistance, or cease to be a viable sporting organization.

Brayshaw did the club a disservice by not taking the massive AFL package offered and relocating to the Gold Coast. Have been and always will be a perennial fringe dweller on the Melbourne scene struggling for fan base and finances.

Have now finally slipped into an abyss from which they may never escape. AFL don't do Priority Picks any more.

Add up the finishing spots and the largest number has been the poorest - 2015 - 2018

Carlton - 18 16 14 18 = 66
Gold Co - 17 17 15 16 = 65

Carlton wins and gets - 2 state league players
Gold Coast the year later - 4 Priority picks spanning 3 years. :)

Gold Coast will be the last team to be awarded a Priority Pick under the current criteria.

In no way shape or form do North Melbourne come close to qualifying for one, and there is no point in Ben Buckley asking for one, cause the answer will be a polite and firm NO.

North have to swallow their pride and do the hard yards in rebuilding their list like everyone else.

You mean like how Carlton was given special assistance in 2018? After blowing up their list?

And Brisbane was in 2016?

Good call.

Glad to see we agree.

Survive on your own without AFL assistance, or cease to be a viable sporting organization.

But other clubs have been given assistance very recently.

Why should North be any different?

There was no assistance package, this has been proven.

Just an absolute dumpster fire.

With all due respect, Melbourne have been an entire garbage dump fire for decades, requiring multiple priority picks and AFL bailouts.

Probably best you don't post in the thread if you don't have any genuine contributions.

Nope. Just nope. You can't go and spend up big on someone one year to ship him off the next and get a priority pick. Not sure that the afl would consider it.

But I hope they get some list things right. They would have a heap of cap space now especially if polec goes.

Brisbane were given assistance after the Fevola disaster.

Yeah years ago and under a different AFL regime.

Notwithstanding the willful negligence (or incompetence) displayed is just next level. You can't seriously blow your club up then ask for a hand out.

What did we get ? Access to one state league player. Whoopsy Do.

*4 years after blowing up their list.

You're making the counter argument for us.

2020 is how many years after we retired Boomer et al and started our rebuild.

Or are you saying that we should have Ben Jacobs on the list even though he struggles to get out of bed each day due to concussion.

You're making our case very well here.

This is EXACTLY what Melbourne did.

Ditched loyal servants like McDonald and begged for help.
