It's prob been posted, but any idea how many FD and staff will actually lose their jobs with the new numbers limits etc?
Nope
Just know Richmond have around 50 staff, I’d assume north would have a bit under that but teams have to cull down to 25 for Monday

I’d assume for us around 15-20 would lose their jobs and mainly in the development/vfl/academy space with line coaches taking on more responsibility there and Gav taking full ownership of the development space. Can see a lot less specialist coaches and footy and oppo analysts. Culling under 18 scouts other than our national recruiter I’d assume

Media team I assume will be cut down big time just keep Heath and a digital guru

The media content since lockdown has been the best in years.

Am I way off or do you really only need someone with a decent phone?

Walk around the training sessions and do some filming.

On the spot, behind the scenes stuff.

Then regular weekly spots like Thursday/Friday night team selection vids with either Rhyce or another coach.

Likewise with Sunday/Monday wrap ups.

Add an ‘all nmfc goals’ vid each week.

Done.

You'll find in situations like this that a 'last in, first out' approach will probably apply (except for significant positions like coach, CEO, etc)
I’d more say the ones Shaw has brought in ie both of those are more likely to stay and use this as an opportunity to get rid of ones that have been there a while

I wonder how this will be audited by the AFL. For example, can the redundant people 'volunteer' their services and work 'free'? Wouldn't be too hard for some of the more wealthy clubs to have those workers employed by a club sponsor or benefactor and then have them 'volunteer' their services back to the club. Will the new AFL rules dictate numbers of employees or just the departments budget?

There was an article on the AFL website yesterday detailing how it might look. It was more about a cap on numbers who could have contact with the playing. If a job could be done away from the playing group it could stay and not be be part of the 25.

Only 6 allowed in the coaches box my guess
1. Rhyce Shaw
2. Brady
3. Jade
4. Rivers (backs coach)
5. Moore (mids coach)
6. Whitecross (forwards coach)

Maybe an analyst goes in there and one of the above goes on the bench though

Also rhyce round 1 coached the second half from the bench so that might keep happening as there was success with that

That’s how I read it too... so the likes of the list team ie Clayton luff etc don’t need to be in direct contact and can do their work from a far

I’ll be surprised if Jason Lappin’s no longer in the box considering he’s appeared to be Shaw’s right hand man since he took over, always sitting right alongside the coach. What’s his role?

Might be a good opportunity to utilise the stadium being empty during the games. Have a coach(es) sit behind the goals or anywhere they wanted.

Revised coaches box 6 in light of Whitecross and rivers stood down atm

1. Rhyce (May coach from bench though)
2. Brady
3. Jade
4. Gav Brown
5. J Moore
6. Jason Lappin

Then we can have I guess up to 19 other staff at the ground including the bench

Development coaches Leigh Adams and Heath Scotland appeared to have a more hands-on role at training on Wednesday morning, filling the void left by stood down assistants.

Brendan Whitecross (forward line) and Jared Rivers (defence) failed to make the cut in the Roos' cull of 25 football department staff allowed for footy's retstart.

Head of development Gavin Brown and senior assistant Jade Rawlings are also expected to pick up some of the slack.

"We've been forced to make change and make decisions on people based on the guidelines we've been provided," Shaw said.

"It was a really hard time for everyone and making those decision, it was based on what's best for the footy club right now.

"I'm not shying away from that, I've got to make decisions that are best for our footy club and what the footy club needs right now.

"I feel as though I've done that and there's always going to be collateral damage from that."

Both Whitecross and Rivers will continue to receive JobKeeper payments while they're stood down indefinitely.

Not sure a culture based club like North works like that.

Old wood isn’t seen as dead wood - it’s seen as history and the basis of what makes North North.

No doubt hard calls will be made but I can’t see them throwing the shinboner spirit out the door

Wonder if Darren Crocker is part of the 25 staff, current role is head of culture but was previously senior assistant coach and a line coach before that so he’d be versatile to have multiple hats on

Would be the most experienced footy department staff we have along with Gav
