Then he doesn’t come. The bloke is the most loved player for the biggest club in the land, 2 years from a flag. His management would laugh us out of the room with that offer.

Would be brilliant for a team screaming out for a bloke with a bit of ‘c***’ in him and who knows how to win. But you are right, we should be saving our coin to throw at some A grader that won’t come.

Polec, CCJ, Stephens etc are all ****ing horrible contracts.

Even the likes of Simpkin and McDonalds current contracts are shockers. Zurhaars will be a shocker in 1-2 seasons I have no doubt.

I have no idea how they progressed to 6 at 28/29 years of age.

A $1m deal x 4 would have still blown the Pies offer away.

There’s about 4 players at our club that deserve a 6 year deal at the moment and 28/29 Maynard doesn’t sit with them either.

A single serious injury or drop in athleticism after 30 and this will be one of the worst contracts in the league.

I don’t think $1m a season is unreasonable to pry away a heart and soul type like him from a club like Collingwood.

Agree that we should not be offering 6-year deals that take players up until 35 years of age. There's a very long list of very good to excellent AFL players who fall away badly at about 32 to 33 years of age. A 4-year deal is plenty.

We are simply out of ideas on how to become competitive again. The group is either uncoachable or we have the wrong coaches...

The club is a shit show and it started with the 'build from the midfield out' narrative imo.

We aren’t going to fix this defence with natural development, aside from Whitlock and W.Dawson there is f*ck all else there. We need to be aggressively targeting anyone that can sure up our defensive end. If you have to over pay a little and not have to trade, do it.

Ralphy was saying during the week we could have as much as 3-3.5 million in the cap going into next year. Have to spend it somewhere.

But if we go with this, then we have to go even harder and grab another 1-2 defenders that will make us better.

Heavily front load the contract and it's not an issue. Could be on a few hundred thousand by the time he's 35, which would be commensurate with his contribution by that point. And Lord knows that plenty of players get traded while still under contract or retire with a year to go.

We've spent years bringing in blokes who are slight upgrades on our fringe players. What we really need is an influx of very high quality players, in all parts of the ground.

Maynard is a gun. Go get him.
