North selling games

Most of you guys will remember some years ago your mob floated the idea of selling your home games agsinst west coast to subi - thus gettting the etihad shit deal millstone off your neck for one game where you could make coin instead

The afl quashed it - too much of sn advantage to wce etc etc (fine to bend the comp to buggery for collingwood - but hey thats another story)


Now i cant actually remember when we last played your mob in melbourne - seems like years and years ago - have the afl just built it into the fixture - we always seem to play you here. Now i dont know if your mob make as much coin out of an eagles home game vs a game you had sold to subi - but seeing as you play here every bloody year anyway, doesnt seem right that you csnt make a bit of coin out of it .

On a personal level, I can't stand the idea of selling games to the opposition's home ground, for exactly the reasons you've pointed to - smaller clubs sell off on-field advantages for off-field advantages, whilst only providing a superficial fix on the equalisation front (the entire business model relies on making money from your opponent's supporters, not on building up support in a region without live AFL games). Sale of games should be used, in my opinion, to improve clubs long-term, not solely as a quick injection of cash.

The stats: North v West Coast has only been played in Melbourne 4 times since 2000 (R1 2000 at MCG, R15 2005 at Docklands, R19 2007 at Docklands, R3 2010 at Docklands), along with 5 North home games outside of Victoria (R22 2002 at Manuka, R13 2004 at Manuka, R4 2006 at Manuka, R8 2008 at Carrara, R15 2012 at Bellerive) and 13 times at Subiaco.
