North Melbourne’s historic pre-season clash at Arden St will be made all the more exciting, with a women’s match to feature on the day.

North’s own team, made up of players from VFL Women’s Melbourne University Women’s Football Club (MUWFC) and a select group of players from Tasmania will take the field on February 26.

The match will follow North’s JLT Community Series clash with Hawthorn at Arden St.

The hunt for female talent to take part in the match has already begun.

Registrations for women in both Melbourne and Tasmania are now open, with trials to take place in Tasmania (for female footballers born in 1999 or earlier) on February 11 (Hobart) and February 12 (Launceston). Those interested from Melbourne will be required to take part in training with MUWFC during summer and can register using the link below.

Laura Kane, North Melbourne’s Manager of Women's Football and Talent Pathways, said it was an exciting prospect for the club.

“The JLT Community Series match at Arden St is a really historic day for the club, and this women’s game will add yet another element to what will be a massive day at Arden St with thousands expected to watch on,” Kane said of the women’s fixture.

Kane told The Mercury it was also exciting for Tasmanian stars to get a chance to feature on the day.

“We are also on the hunt for Tassie’s best footy talent and we can’t wait to see as many people as possible at these tryouts in February.

“Those selected from Tasmania will get to fly up to Melbourne and get a real taste of what life as a professional football player will be like. It’s a great opportunity and we know everyone in Tassie will get behind the team in this match as they watch their local stars in action.”

Please note: Tasmanian participants will be provided flights, accommodation and apparel for the trip to Melbourne. You must be available to travel to Melbourne from Launceston on Saturday, February 25.

Tasmanian registrants must be born in 1999 or earlier to be part of the program.

One thing I can't figure out: who are they playing against?? Either I'm not very attentive, or that information is not yet available.

I assume it'll be another VFL club, but there's a few variables (top-end talent tapped out by the AFLW, addition of Tasmanian players) that might make it hard to ensure two evenly matched teams are there on the day. But hopefully they can!
