Thompson a chance to miss?

NORTH Melbourne spearhead Nathan Thompson says a possible knee injury was no excuse for his recent poor form. Thompson, who returned from a knee reconstruction at the start of the year, will have scans today on the knee after jarring it against Brisbane on Saturday night.

The Kangaroos' key forward hoped he was only suffering from "a bit of inflammation" around the knee and that there was no structural damage.

"I'm very optimistic, I don't think there's very much damage at all," Thompson said.

"I'd say I've just landed on it and jarred it a bit which is making it hard for me to run at top pace like on the weekend.

"Most weeks I've been playing with a little bit of soreness there and on the weekend unfortuntely it didn't com Related LinksVideo: How the Roos deal with journos
e up that well."

Thompson did not shy away from admitting he produced a poor effort in the 31-point loss to the Lions.

Thompson was held goalless and could only manage three kicks and one mark for the game.

"You've got to be honest about your own performance and I know it was below par," he said.

"More to the point, I think I was beaten by a very good opponent.

"There's no excuses for that - I didn't put up a good showing on the weekend for the team but hopefully this weekend I can get back out there and make amends for it."

I cant remember him playing well against us in the past although maybe he was out injured at the time.

Has played against us 12 times (this includes when he was at Hawthorn) and kicked 14 goals.

Last time he played against us was r17 2006 and he kicked 4 goals. North beat us by 5 goals at Manuka Oval.

He also kicked 4 goals against us in 2001 when he was with Hawthorn (we won by 3pts at the Dome).

Which means he has only kicked 6 against us in his other 10 games.

That was the last time Johnson went goalless until Rounds 8 and 9 this year.

i was in geelong for the first cats v. north of that year, where kingsley kicked 8 ....thought we could manage to beat them again to ensure a chance at the finals, but instead, it was old school apathetic catters. The team is almost exactly the same now as back then bar McCarthy and King iirc.
