Scott and LDU big positives. Simpkin needs to touch the ball more. Heaps more. Thomas tackles hard and has been involved.

McDonald equal parts good and hair-pullingly shit.

Brown way off the pace.

Wood is nowhere.

Ahern is sex on a football field.

Higgins rusty.

We cant generate turnovers through good defensive play.

You think people get easy possessions on Cunnington and Anderson? We were beating top 4 teams last year with those four all in the side. We now have Polec and Hall to help out Higgins. Ahern and LDU look like they have gone up a gear, Scott is looking great. I am not sure why people would be pessimistic.
Today is more encouraging than last week.

It’s still frustrating that we leak goals from poor decisions and disposal. If we clean that up by 5-10% it’s a totally different team.

It needs to be drilled into McKay NO SHORT KICKS
Disagree 100%. This is precisely the time for him to tidy up his short kicks. You don’t need to be Einstein to understand it’s mostly down to composure. We’re going to need McKay in the real thing in a couple of weeks. Today is just another day in the sandpit before the serious stuff. If he’s doing the same crap in R1, I’ll totally agree with you. We need to cut him some slack right now, I think.

It’s the last preseason game before the season proper starts so you’d think they would be more fair dinkum than not. But the issue for them is about three quarters of their goals came from direct mistakes by us with little or no pressure. They didn’t create them, we gifted them, and in some cases we wrapped them in gold.
But I mean which team really wants to win rather than just run the game out with players playing to specific instructions and game plan tweaks being tested.

How many do Port have out? Hartlett?

We don’t have Goldstein, Cunnington, Tarrant, Anderson, Daw, Jacobs and now Williams just for starters.

If we clean up our ball use we would be I front of them with a depleted line up.
McMillan also

Brown is moving like a container ship atm, he will benefit from 4 quarters today.

Would’ve thought Wines and Dixon would rate a mention but nah you stay comfy believing we are full tilt

There can be only one...

It has been something throughout Scott's time with us. Kind of sick of complaining about our skills every year and seeing us do nothing about it. Port kicked 5 of the 7 first quarter goals just from us coughing the ball up without any pressure.

Based on the first half today there is a lot to like about us going forward.

Genuine midfield depth now. We just need to see some of these young key position players come through.

I have faith that players like Walker and Murphy will make us better as well. Imagine if you replace Hrovat and/or Simpkin with a fit and firing Garner.

Simpkin hasn’t kicked the footy in 6 quarters so far.

Goldy our is definitely hurting us in the center which is exacerbated by the number of goals. Ryder and Lycett are jumping all over Campbell and Larkey.

Higgins looks really rusty which is a concern for round 1.

Atley down back is smart. Needed to be done with our injuries.

But seriously, we are our own worst enemy with our poor skills and poor choices. A short, high possession game plan doesn’t suit us.

First season as a mostly midfielder

I'm not concerned
JLT will be the only time he gets decent midfield minutes and it doesn’t look natural to him , he will end up being predominantly forward with the odd stint in the centre square Ste up due to his abilities in traffic . But a full time mid ?? He’d be doing well given the other young mids we have coming through .

Sam Wright, Thommo and Atley are good users out of the back half - we have to get rid of blokes who can't use the footy as they end up killing you in the modern era.

Imagine how sexy that midfield looks with Cunnington, Higgins, Anderson, Ahern, LDU, Jacobs rotating through there just for a start.

Then you have Polec and Hall out on the wings, with Tyson being good depth. Ziebell can also pinch hit.

So many midfield combinations possible. It’s been a long time since we could have said that.

Just started watching. Thommo doesn't need to do that in JLT. Glad EVW was at least able to impact even if it wasn't great. Nice seeing EVW and powell pepper giving eachother a pat on the back after their efforts.
