Two sides that sit at 4-5 at the moment, with St Kilda 5% more (courtesy of an Eagles demolition).

Pre season many had the Saints playing finals. Some thought their expensive recruits might elevate them to real contenders. They've yet to hit their straps though. TDK and Marshall isn't as great as some hoped. They've looked solid in some areas, but I think they're still a decent/good side. A key forward is still an issue, and I doubt Max King is the answer, though Sharman, Owens have done quite well. Nas has potential to reach his best and Wilkie has become elite. They are scoring more too.

Roos have been a rebuilding bottom 4 side for years and this year it seems They've finally clicked. LDU seems to have got up to another level, and youngsters like Trembath, FOS, Curtis look really good, and Sheezel is showing what hes capable of. Defence on transition still an issue, but better defensively. Parker proving why experience and footy smarts is important.

It's hard to say, and I think it'll be a really interesting matchup. I think St Kilda might have better short term prospects, but North might have a bit more potential as they rely more on their 19-22yo brigade. Could be wrong though.

Obviously my opinion is skewed towards the Saints but there are valid arguments either way. By any measure the Saints have had a much tougher draw. 4 interstate trips. Played 5 of last year’s finalists including the premier, minor premier and prelim finalist. Did not get a ‘neutral’ opponent in Gather Round. Have also been in every game up to their ears. Both clubs have left points on the table losing games they probably should have won. North have had 3 interstate trips but one of those was a neutral game in Gather Round. Have played 4 of last years finalist. Lost to WC, who St.Kilda beat by 101 points.

After this week St.kilda almost certain to be 5/5 and North almost certain to be 4/6. Best to judge them after they play each other but if they went head-to-head at the moment with close to their best sides available, I honestly think the Saints win comfortably. No doubt others have a contrary view and that's perfectly fine.

North have really taken their time with the rebuild but I would take their list, profile and future over the Saints.
North's midfield will be in the top couple in the next year or two.
Ruck - North
Midfield - North
Forwards - North
Defenders - Saints

A couple of KPD and they will go well.

North have a lot more talent.

But both sides are still reliant on old guys.

St Kilda with Sinclair and Hill - North with Daniel and Parker.

I feel that North have built already and are now in the beginning of the 'win' phase.

St Kilda still haven't got their foundations. Guys like Phillipou, Boxshall, Tauru and that squibby little blond guy that took high in the draft just don't seem to have landed as they would have hoped.

North feel 2 years ahead of St Kilda.

Caleb Daniel is 29 so should have a heap of footy left.

But I agree North rely on Parker and to a lesser extent, Darling. Granted both look good and fit enough to go again in 2027 giving us a little breathing room to cement suitable replacements coming through the ranks.
