Loved: The performances of McCartney, Pickett, King, Grant, Colbert, and McKernan.

Liked: Motlop operating from what appeared on TV to be the half back flank or wing. Makepeace kicked well after Saints behinds, thus allowing King and Pickett to be further up the ground. The new slimline Winston Abraham. Also, nice to see the kids getting around the play, Rawlings was promising. Sinclair putting his body in.

Disliked: Rocca in the ruck. He looked puffed by the end of it. Delivery into the forward line seems to be the long bombs. Also, when a North player was gang tackled by Saints, there seemed to be few Roos in support. Sinclair's disposals...seemed to go nowhere. Seeing Capuano in non-North colours.

Hated: The commentary team being in love with the Saints.

Highlight: The SKULL SQUAD banner came across on national television very clearly. Top effort rooboys.

Thanks Shinners, did you really see the banner? What part of the game? I have yet to watch the replay & was worried about how it would come up.

Loved Canberra, awesome weather. Its been a very long time since I've sat watching the footy on lush green grass while sinking a couple of tinnies.

My votes would be 3 to Kingy,
2 to Corey Mc
& 1 to Macca.

Personally I got a chuckle (no, more of a big hearty laugh) when the first I saw of him was when he dropped an easy mark then picked the ball up and kicked it straight to a North player. Seeing him in St.Kilda colours was my personal highlight.

Im with you Shinboners Some good things and some bad things came out to the game.

I have been known to get on Corey's case but he is getting there he still needs to work on his marking but his 4 shots at goal never looked in doubt. The bigger ruck circle helps him no end.

Sav cant play in the ruck . He should have a 30m rope on his ankle tied to the goal post so he cant go any further.

The Skulls kickouts are great and only going to get better.

Not sure about Sinclair seems to panic too much and disposal is poor. If its out of him and Clayton give me "Shanes World" every time.

The long bombs will stop when Sav gets his rope. and he will kick a few. If he is to stay in the side he needs to kick those ones in front . (terrible miss that one) .

Colby's shut down of Hammil was awesome and that wont be the last time he does that this year.
They have done alot to Historic Manuka oval in a year . Great place to watch footy you are very close and when you yell out they hear you. The sledge to Peckett that "You havent seen the ball since 1997" was met with a glare in to the crowd . Maybe he agrees. If you get the chance get up and watch the Kangas there this year grab your deck chair and sit on the grass. You can watch the boys warm up through the glass at the back of the stand.
Top Banner that expect it every week. More mobile this week. It's on poles.

Sinclair certainly has to watch his disposal. more often than not he kicks it up in the air or just punches it to nowhere, he used to do that at Freo as well. David King always looks like he is really enjoying himself, when he gets the ball you know that he is going to do something with it, how often do you see him get caught?. Same with Jason, when he gets the ball you can be confident that he will do something positive with it. Stevo is in great form, also enjoys his football, and that has got to be a positive. Must say that Mickey looked really scary with that blood trickling down his face. Sav is doing ok, as Corey said after the game, big Sav knows what had work is like since he joined the Kangas.

Sinclair vs Clayton. Having seen Clayton in the reserves the other week and watched Sinclair in the seniors vs the Saints, I'd let Sinclair have about 3 games at the start of the real season to prove himself. If panic is what's causing him to dispose of the ball badly, then he just needs time to adjust to the way we play. Maybe he's just trying too hard.

Sinclair and Clayton both have pace, but Clayton is better at finding space. Panic aside, Sinclair is a better kick than Clayton, and (this wins it for me), Sinclair is prepared to use his body to shepherd and bump opposition players. He just seems to be a more physically aggresive player than Clayton.

Yup. Sure did. Off memory, I think it was during the 3rd quarter when the ball went out of play....you just caught sight of it for a few seconds, but the 35 and SKULL SQUAD came across loud and clear.

Sinclair doesnt mind going in tough, remember he is the one who took out Worsfold, and remember when he used to jump off the ground into the players, very dangerous I thought. Thankfully he has adjusted that part of his play, and yeah he does panic, but he used to do the same thing when playing for Freo. Denis is going to have to take this in hand.

Wasn't it a damn hot day! North looked to have the Sainters in hand for most of the match and when needed it was McKernan who stood up to be counted. Colbert is looking very good. Time for that investment to pay off!

Very Good: Stevo, McCartney, Colbert, King, Pickett, Grant (in patches), McKernan's kicking for goal.

Ordinary: Sinclair, McLaren, McKernan's field play, Lange (I think the boy is on his last chance, sadly).

Good to see Stevo back in action. Colbert on Hamil was great. It will be like having two new recruits this year.
The run in the ruck will be good for Rocca's fittness, after all the slug hasn't worked for years, but he does give us another option around the place.
As for Jason Mc, he really has worked hard the last couple of years, a real Mr reliable.
And all the guys looked as if they enjoyed the game too!! Something that's was missing last year.
Ahhh I can smell September already!(or is it october again?)

35 EYE When have you sat Watching footy drinking V.B before SaturdaY? This I must know.

You've challenged me to stretch my memory back to a VFL game last year at Box Hill where Malibu & I coerced each other into having a beer because neither of us had really been p!ssed while watching the Roos before. She will back me up on this one.

Then there was the losing game against the Bulldogs at Colonial Stadium last year where I swore I wouldn't drink at the footy again because it was unlucky.

I believe I've broken the hoodoo. 35eye is back in the game...

Good win on Saturday.

From a saints perspective, I was fairly happy with our performance. Probably one of the main positives for me, which may sound a little strange, was the poor performances of some of our bigger name players. Andrew Thompson had a shocker (2 possessions). He will more than likely never play that poorly again. Hamill was comprehensively thrashed by Colbert (cop that Cat fans

) and again I could not see him being blanketed like that every week. Spider is improving slowly. In 4 weeks time, we're all hoping like anything that the old Spider is back for the "real stuff".

I can see that there are mixed feelings about the trade of Capuano and McLaren. I think Capuano could play a very important role with us. He will be given a huge opportunity to cement himself as the number 1 ruckman, perhaps alternating with Spider as a forward target. He has made a few mistakes but overall I'm quite pleased with his form.

Probably the best thing about the day for me was the debut of Justin Koschitzke. He did nothing to suggest to me that he won't turn into a top-class league footballer. Surely someone with his height (196cm) and leap has the attributes to become a great player. I won't say the next Carey of course.

I wish we could add the Stevens, Harvey, King and Pickett type players to our squad. It is these hard running, aggressive, skillful players that we don't have enough of.

A drop down the ladder has been predicted for the kangaroos by quite a few pundits. Provided the bulk of the squad have a relatively injury free season (including Carey of course), I couldn't see the roos missing out on a top 4 position again.

Who knows what will happen?

Sorry for going on about the saints a bit much, this was supposed to cover both sides about the same.

Shinners, I have to say that I found the Channel 7 commentary a little too patronising for my liking. At one stage, I recall one of the commentators saying the saints had done well to keep up with the roos at a stage in the match where we were winning.

I'm heading up with a North supporter for the Round 8 re-match in Canberra so I might get to see a few of you there.

YES, I can confirm we had a tinny each at the Box Hill game and I can also confirm I saw 35eye knock back a VB on Saturday in Canberra, it was at the start of the game.

Looking forward to a few brews at Colonial this Saturday night or should I leave that to the VFL only 35eye?

GOOD LUCK to Cappers, I hope he does really well for you guys.

Watching the replay of Saturdays game, there is a priceless moment when the camera caught a guy standing with a beer in one hand and adjusting and then scratching the crown jewles with the other. If you were to see the game again you would not miss it, it is right in front of you.lol

When I saw that, I mistakenly thought I'd been watching the mirror instead of the TV for the last hour!
