If you happen to have Sydney's list please let me know/post it here.

Also if someone can tell me which GWS/Brisbane players are U17 (if any), I'll remove the U17s as they aren't draft eligible in 2021.
None of those listed in our U19s will be 17, we keep the lists separated on the website so it's easier to tell

Not totally sure but;

The Level 3 (Under 19) squad announcement has been made and in that squad, there were some boys and girls turning 17 in 2021 invited - this is a new concept for the Academy moving forward as a part of the restructured program.
Possibly some 17 year olds in there?

Still a tonne if only some u17s...

Although there might be further levels if it's only level 3, so level 4+ might have further cuts and they just haven't updated it?.

Will see when Northern Academies play Nab League.
Level 3 is our U18 & U19 squad.

Level 2 is U17, and Level 1 is U16.

Before Covid hit, the club was talking about expanding each academy age group to 200+ kids in both boys and girls.

Brisbane’s academy zone, by area is probably three times the size of Victoria, then Gold Coasts zone is the rest of the State, probably 5 times the size of Victoria.

Our academy has 4 hubs, with a team in each hub. Currently our hub teams have been playing a each other, mixed in with the best kids then pulled together to play Gold Coast’s academy. A823D448-54A1-4C2C-BFD4-1FB6D741CF8B.jpeg

Dont have an elite comp like the Vics?
No.

The problem up here is that most kids are split between their QAFL/local team and the academies.

It’s an imperfect system, with a tug of war on both sides.

In reality an academy club will have a fair idea which half a dozen kids might actually be draftable.

But you can’t run an academy with 6 kids in each age group. You need teams for the kids to play in. So Brisbane might have a team in each age group in each of it’s zones or hubs. And their might be one kid in an age group that might be a genuine draftable chance.

The QAFL clubs get pee’d off because all their best Colts kids are off playing in “meaningless” intra squad academy games, before a squad of the best kids get pulled together to play Gold Coast’s academy, and then the best kids from those two teams get selected for the Allies squad for the National Championships.

When all along, if these kids just played QAFL Colts, reserve’s and league, everyone would know who the best kids are anyway.

But the QAFL only encompasses the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Sunshine Coast, so the rest of the State gets left out.

If there were no academies, we’d have the same set up as SA and WA, but you’d be missing every kid outside the South East corner of the State.

Also the new VFL comp means all the best U19 academy kids play for their AFL reserves team, with maybe 1 or 2 an outside chance of getting drafted.

Is that actually happening?
In WA its not been unusual for kids to play League footy towards the end of the year & that goes back more than 50 years that I know of e.g Steve Coniglio was 16 in 2010 when he kicked 4 for Swans in the WAFL Grand final.

Can understand the logic based on the physical size of kids.

lol yes. 10 played in our reserves team last week, and there will likely be 11 or 12 in our team this week.

Add in four 19 year old draftees from last year, and our reserves team will be the youngest in the VFL most weeks.

We don’t have any mature age top ups for our reserve team, they’re all academy kids, albeit all 19 year olds who didn’t get drafted last year, plus two 20 year olds who were supposed to play last year, but missed out due to Covid.

Our U18’s are playing in the intra club academy games atm.

We might see some of the better U18’s play towards the end of the year.
