Weitering organising the defence has clearly been benificial to how he positions himself and attacks the contest.

Rowe doesn't position himself that well, and isn't quick enough to make/demonstrate big or critical plays. ASOS is a traditional defender who uses his burst to make position.
I don't know all about that but it just looks to me like Weitering is having fun again :)

With Zones I really like Willo off HB. He is so composed and his left foot and can turn defence into attack so quickly. Can kick over the zones and I like him doing the kick outs as well. Once he and Lochie get comfortable their kicking will be a massive advantage.

Be nice to see the left footers in Willo O'Brien Simmo & Gaff all on the one side of the ground :)
Indeed.

I don't mind him off HB but I do know that Willo was being told pre-season that they were wanting him to progress into a midfield role and I think with his tank and foot skills he could really do some damage off a wing.

I have been super impressed with O'Brien and one of my favourite passages of play for the year was in the last quarter against the Bulldogs when Kennedy pushed an opponent off the ball, Cripps picked it up and handballed to O'brien coming off the back of the square who hit the perfect pass to charlie just behind his man where he turned and goaled - I can see that being repeated over and over again in coming years.

Yep. Willo O'Brien Gaff Pickett Garlett Cuningham Docherty all playing wing or out of defence is very exciting. All very good to elite ball users

Thats why i think we should get him in instead of O'shea and have him play the third tall to Rowe & Jones and have that fun at AFL level instead of out on a suburban park in front of 100 people.
I don't mind him having to earn it. IMO will do him good but I agree we will be a lot better when he's back. Our side is going to look so different (and better) in the second half of the year

2 quality VFL games is enough to earn it IMO.

I am really looking forward to the second half of the year, Pickett alone changes our whole side before you get to Willo, Cuningham, etc

If we were talking about form alone, that should be the case.
Just seems (has seemed for two years now) that Jacob may be dealing with other demons.

Can't wait to see the BOSS I watched two years ago, again....and sooner than later would be just fine.

Thats why I want him to play with Rowe & Jones - he looked like a "BOSS" when he could be the third tall.

Also last year wasn't all bad like some would have you think, his last month was very good and from round 9 to 16 he was very solid.

To me 2 rounds of very good footy coming back from injury in the 2's makes you earn your spot, lingering longer makes you doubt you will get back. Get him back in let him just read the ball in flight and take the intercept mark and watch those supposed demons disappear.

I have no idea if there are any issues but the kid is genuine star in the making and if playing him in the 2's for a longer period helps him sort a few things out I'm all for it

There were some signs as far back as 2016 that just seemed that not was all in an ideal situation.
I've probably said enough about Jacob as it was just my observation and nothing that came from elsewhere.

Maybe just a little physical and mental alignment and all will come together again.
He can play. We just haven't seen anywhere near his best yet.

I agree. Not unusal what he's going through. Talls can dominate at Under 18s then it's a whole new ball game at AFL. Zones, guarding space etc is so different. IMO Weitering is just going through an adjustement period and dealing with the first time he heasn't dominated. I still believe we are looking at one of our best key defenders in our history. Kid is that good

Last one on Weitering :)

The way he intimidated and then dominated his opponents in the games I saw in his TAC year, was something of beauty.
Didn't seem to be a chink in that armour, but that has changed. As you say, it's not unusual but he would have been the last person drafted, I thought we'd have that issue with. Just want to se Jacob intimidating again and not the one being intimidated.

It was mentioned in a rumour post but the clear delineation in Jacob's game is before and after he hurt his shoulder with the desperation act against Essendon in 2016. Even when he's played well after that point it's been without the dominating presence and contempt for opponents we saw beforehand.

IMO it's just the learning process. Even the best have down periods. Personally I think the mistake was putting him forward whilst he was still learning. Confusing and hard to do. I expect his second half of the year to be very good

..........Docherty, Pickett, Byrne, Marchbank etc
I hand such huge raps for Byrne. Thought he was certain best 22 for us.

Giving up hope now though. Injuries are going to destroy him... too much time out for someone who is still learning the game.

Got gus Sheehan written all over it.

Hope he gets himself right but it's not looking good right now

That's exactly who it is, but he's not really taking to the opportunity with gusto at this point.
saw the stats and not huge numbers but he looked to have a high number of tackles but as a 19 year old not sure what he should be producing in the VFL
It will be interesting to see how he plays out the year and if he sticks at it as it proves a path for other ex academy players
Several exs play for the Canberra NEAFL team but not close to the development opportunities at the club he is at now

Williamson and Cuningham returning, Kennedy (ankle) and TDK (managed) out. Extended squad to be shortened as the senior 22 gets finalised.
Have i missed something, mullett and graham have been named in the starting 18 but we have only made one change at afl level Murphy for ed?

That was the extended squad before changes had been finalised -- this is the actual team that will run out tomorrow in box hill
