It was there I agree, has got significantly better IMO.

Didn’t he identify it himself and get a sprint coach? I’d like Jack to do the same.
I'm not sure the gains that were clearly available for Cripps are there for Jack, nor is he sitting on the kind of salary that Crippa was at the time.

I think they've put him there to learn about 2nd & 3rd efforts. I think they've put him there to learn to tackle and provide some defensive pressure. I think they've put him there to learn to hold his feet in the contest. I think they've also put him there to attempt to build some endurance into him. These are all things he'll need if he's to survive as a 3rd tall forward in the current AFL environment. Think Tom Lynch (Crows version). If he's able to have an effect at the stoppages in the front half then all the better. There's no place for SOSOS in a midfield containing Cripps & Kennedy. Just my thoughts though.
See, I think it's both. Midfield depth is never a bad thing, and developing all the skills you're asking for in him here would be a pleasant byproduct of his time in the VFL if we continue to use him as a medium forward.

Worst case scenario, he learns all the things you list in your post but remains the developing tall he is. Best, he becomes another quality inside mid that can rest forward, and we rock it like we're Sydney with Kennedy, Hannebury and Parker.

Hmmmmmm........you don't in any way think that might just a little bit of a stretch??? Just askin'.

That Schumacher bloke seems to be racking up some decent stats - good signs. Good to see Jack/Kennedy and Weitering playing like AFL players in VFL - need another 8-10 like them before depth box is ticked.
In 5 games he is averaging 15 disposals, 3 tackles, 3 marks, 61 DT and has also kicked a goal. I haven't actually watched him play but the stats suggest he may make a few appearances later in the year. He reminds me of Willo last year, both were late picks and had strong starts to VFL.

I had not seen the stats yet, and looks like he has had a big game.. For me more important than the 4 goals was the 9 tackles.
Underlines what you were saying about money. He was a Bullant once, but we couldn't afford to keep him.

Agreed. He's a pearl at this level.

I thought so. Ran all day as a full back; excellent closing speed.
He wasn't much of a runner actually. Used his judgement to be one step ahead of the opposition though. Also, near-impossible to move off the ball, and in a marking contest his testicles were legendary.

He kicked our only Goal in the first half!

But I guess you are calling it "junk time" as the contest was over after 10 minutes of the first quarter:'(.

"Silvagni was on hand to hit the scoreboard, but it would prove to be Northern’s only goal of the first half as Williamstown stifled the Blues." ...
"Silvagni once again spent time in the midfield while making the most of his opportunities up forward, while Jacob Weitering featured prominently in the back half on the way to 21 disposals." ...
"Kennedy and Silvagni would also finish with seven clearances apiece, while youngster Ethan Penrith led the way with nine tackles."

GOALS
Northern Blues: Silvagni 3, Kennedy, Phillips

BEST
Northern Blues: Silvagni, Polson, Kennedy, Fisher, Weitering, Palmer"

JSOS is trying his heart out and IMHO will be a very good player for us. Not sure why you are taking cheap shots...
This mid forward experiment could work. Will have a crack will be in our next premiership team

Absolutely it's a stretch! It's a best case scenario; he becomes a gun, wins 3 brownlows, captains us to seven flags, and has six more children who go on to get drafted by us!

It's not that much to ask, is it?

Nick Meese has been the best VFL ruckman in the last 10 year and regularly monsters young developing ruckman. You would think more mature AFL rucks would have the advantage, but he's a powerful unit and difficult to move, especially at boundary throw ins.

Would have been a handy pick up in the rookie draft 2-3 years ago instead of going with the Korcheck experiment. Too old now, but remains a gun ruckman at VFL level. He was probably NB's biggest loss when he went to Williamstown at the same time as Marcon & Lambert.

Isn't as physically capable as Willo, I think he'll debut next year. Perhaps given a taste of a game or two near the end of the season.

He was doing fine before the ankle injury in round 1.

20 disposals (11 contested possessions) and 5 clearances supporting Cripps in the final JLT against Hawthorn. Everything went downhill from there but it wasn't for a lack of effort/talent.
JLT form is irrelevant, Kennedy is not a kid feeling his way through what its like to be a professional footballer, or like Pickett & Garlett coming from LTIs.. He should have hit the ground running, and with our very weak midfield I think most Carlton's fans expected him to be a key part of our midfield from the very start.. However right now, i think most people are unsure if he is even capable at AFL level.

I said from the start at pre-season when i seen a photo of him, that he looked overweight.. Podgy for a footballer and without the muscle definition you see in most mids.. I was caned on here for fat shaming him but I just wonder if he did all the work in preseason to get himself fit enough to be the midfielder we expected him to be or did he just coast along.

You do realise he’s coming off shoulder surgery (reco?) that limited his pre-season and then ankle injury in round 1 with dubious returns to play again.

A few things to consider on his condition & resulting output so far. Hoping a good run at VFL level and re-boot after the bye with better returns for CFC.

Fair enough, i just think we are making a lot of excuses for a player that has under performed.. And i have always been of the opinion that if you step out onto an AFL field you are fully fit and should be no excuses.. VFL is a little different as players can nurse themselves back from injury but if you are wearing the CFC jumper you should be giving your all.

Think this is of concern to many around here that perhaps we’re rushing players back in without their due recuperation.
Kennedy / Kreuzer / Marchbank all victims of the return to play then to sit out again with injury the next.
Hoping a good run in the VFL to build up touch & fitness with a return to AFL in the coming weeks (along with a few others to bolster both CFC & NB’s) much like Weiters / JSOS’s current spell, remembering that they’re from the same draft year.

Matthew Kennedy
Stats: 31 disposals, 9 clearances, 6 tackles, 1 goal
From the coach:
He worked hard around the contest, found enough of the footy in contested situations and kicked a really nice goal late in the game. He’ll continue working hard on aspects of his game, but it was a step forward with his footy and consistency.

Cameron Polson
Stats: 14 disposals, 5 clearances, 5 tackles
From the coach:
His pressure and intensity around the ball was really good. We’re working hard on his running patterns away from the footy, which has become a growth area in his game. We want him to keep playing with the speed and urgency he’s shown in the last fortnight.

Jack Silvagni
Stats: 20 disposals, 8 clearances, 6 tackles, 3 goals
From the coach:
Jack did a lot of work as an inside midfielder, and won a fair chunk of contested ball (14 contested possessions) in difficult conditions and against an experienced midfield. He also used the ball well and finished off effectively in front of goal to finish with three majors.

Jacob Weitering
Stats: 22 disposals, 9 rebound 50s, 5 marks
From the coach:
‘Weiters’ was solid in one-on-one contests, and had some good intercept marks, while he used his voice to good effect and organised our defenders behind the ball. He battled on pretty well as one of our defensive group.
