I must admit to being completely confused by the use of Stocker. He’s the Morrish medal winning midfielder from last year. Ball magnet in the secon half of the year.

Since then.....he’s gotten fitter before we drafted him. Ran a 6’40” something 2km. Then has apparently worked very hard since then......

And our mids got killed today.....and Stocker is in the backline.

I don’t get it at all.

2 more games then another bye.

Whoever needs minutes hopefully gets them in before selection in the seniors.

We play Collingwood that round.
Wtf. Only positive is that the likes of Williamson, Macreadie, Lang, Kennedy, Stocker etc will have had enough time to stake their claim for seniors.

They want to build up both the one on one defensive side, and the attacking side of his game before they throw him in the deep end. Very happy with his progression so far, he’ll be in the midfield soon enough

For too long our players haven’t had a chance to fully develop their game, they’ve had to be thrown in to the AFL side raw and had to learn there. Doesn’t hurt to develop them early

It will be the death of this coach this constant trying to reinvent the wheel with players ... too much analysis and not enough common sense!

I’m sure it’s something he has seen to be very important whilst at hawks. They are the benchmark so BB most likely doing the right thing even though it may be frustrating to players and supporters.

Just like last week, it just didn't look like we could win, yet somehow pulled something out late in the game to do so.
Seems odd to me again, that we were beaten on the inside, beaten on the outside but just not beaten for effort.
Penrith, Cottrell and then Blakey truned the ball over via poor efforts late in the last quarter where you just felt; There isn't a win to be had here. but.....

Williamson wasn't best on ground but just did things that made you say; I want some of that. :)
His daring to take the game on undid Collingwood a few times. Fair to say I forgot just how could he can be and more than his skill, was his courage. didn't take a backward step in is attack for the ball. I want to see this guy on the wing for us, as he's not simply a straight line player. One of those guys that waeves this way and that and then opens the game up in front of him. Our talls would love him......they need him.

Stocker again had a solid game and looks like a 25 year old out there and not a young man in his second game against senior bodies.
Only knock I had was on his kick-outs, as he didn't always take the best and most open options. Under instruction maybe? anyway, for a young-un, he's a beauty. You can just tell.

Fasolo tried to be cute with his delivery at times and when it worked, it looked good. and when it didn't.....you know.
Can't see an urgent call up for him just yet, but you never know.

Goddard was good and bad. bad only when the more agile Reid undid him on a few occasions, but overall it's hard to fault the effort.
Don't want to go into his limitations again, but one has to give it to him for his work today. Good on him.

Macreadie had a quiet yet effective first half, but did some great work later on, including some very important marks, intercepts and plays to advantage when the heat was really on. Building block game, but a good one overall.

Phillips and Lobbe started slow against #45 Lynch (SOS...get Lynch) but Phillips in particular became very important as the game progressed.
A couple of good marks and when he realised later on that his taps weren't serving our mids, he just went for distance and it worked.

BSilvagni was OK again. Nothing flashy but his body use stood out to me, as on several occasions, he simply stood his ground to block opponents. Not sexy but the team benefitted. Smart.

Lang was quiet and din't play in the backline. Mainly wing but not as influential as the prior week.

Cottrell surprised me as for the couple of poor things he did, he showed much more than I would have expected.
Moved well around the ground and positioned himself quite favourably. He was OK.

Kerr was good. Not the most imposing of tall forwards, but very workman-like.
If only he had the height and speed of Reid, he'd be more than handy, but he is a smart player and in the end kicked the goal that sealed the deal.

Garlett? I don't know. What now? He's not a forward.

Wait - the VFL midfield is ‘the deep end’? Give me a spell.

If you’re a mid then the best position to learn that craft is funnily enough in the midfield! And the best place to do that? A level down from where you’re aspiring to get, never been any different , ever.
100 percent this. I spoke to an Elite Weight Training coach about sport not long ago. I thought I’d pick up some super sharp tips for a friend. I asked him “how do you get stronger?” He said “do bench, dead’s, squats”. Oh. What do you advise to maximise running ability? Like which weights?

“I advise you to run. Running will maximise your running potential.”

Silence.

We have a midfielder who needs developing. Put him on the ******* ball.

Really good summary. It felt liked they dominated the early parts of each quarter then we took over. It probably had a bit to do with having 2 rucks vs 1. Their guy Lynch looked good, I’d happily have him in Navy Blue.

Is it becoming apparent that Garlett just doesn't have the smarts to play AFL? Doesn't take the best options coming out of defence, doesn't get to the right spots to win the ball as a forward...

It's early but as I mentioned last week; He's at times invisible and not just on the ground to me, but he must be to team-mates.

Just hasn't that spark and verve around the place. it's not tangible, but you know what I mean. it's almost as though he's playing his own game within a game.
Just doesn't seem to be a part of the whole and plays accordingly....for now.

EDIT: Just had a look at Max lynch's bio. He's only 20 and comes from a soccer background.
Looks like a damn fine junior to me and has that important thing going for him: Presence.

Maybe they've identified an issue in his game where he needs to develop his defensive skills. When they think he's ready, they'll put him into the midfield. He is ony 18, andhe has plenty of time to develop. Big step from U18's to senior AFL.

Oh and btw- Patrick Cripps was out of shape in his first year with us.

You wouldn’t believe it. They played him on ball in the lofty world of the VFL. Didn’t seem to harm his development.
It’s not like that to it with all our draftees?

You watched much TAC Cup? There is so 0 defence, literally 0. The coaches gain recognition by getting players drafted and they do that but racking up possessions, not teaching their best midfielders to run both ways.

He’s 18 and has plenty of time. Hopefully they don’t leave him there all year but can see the reasoning behind it for the first half of year or so.

They have given Goddard BOG, Macreadie and Willo in the bests. The Casey Radio commentators gave Kennedy BOG.

I didn’t suggest he should be in the seniors I said it’s best for his development to play midfield in twos.
Also defensive skills in defence have sfa to do with defensive skills in the midfield, they’re so different it’s not funny.
Midfield defensive skills are different all over the ground I.e centre bounce, throw in, fwd stoppage, defensive stoppage, when your team have ball, when their team have ball, where your team have ball, where their team have ball, your kick in from a behind, their kick in from a behind. Defence is Defence onball is onball.....hope that clears it up for you.
If Bolton wants him to be a mid then he better start playing him there. Brett Ratten played midfield in twos before back pocket game in ones, that’s ok to learn pace of the game but once you’ve got that away you go, so I’m ok with stocker playing in defence when he comes in but that’s not a reason to play him in defence in the twos.

Loved the commentary in here today. I read through the last few pages without knowing the outcome & when we hit the front I was actually getting nervous about the final result as if I was following the game live.

Today's win amounts to a 133 point turnaround from the corresponding game last year. Good signs.
Certainly better than the radio coverage which I ended up turning off, they have no idea they just blather shit and don’t even call the game, what has happened to professional commentators for **** sake.
Great win Northern two in a row woo hoo, great too see Willo and McReadie back, Stockman had another 19 possies noice, Lang was off his chow today not sure what’s up there, you gotta love Frankie boy Anderson gettem Frankie.
