21 years is a shockingly light sentence for murdering so many people but I remember hearing somewhere that there is some way they can keep him locked up longer if they want to.
21 years and he's free it's that simple.

He can be kept indefinitely if they think he is a threat to the wider community.

Ive been watching BBC coverage, yes they can keep him in. They reported at the 10 year mark he will be re-assessed and if they decide he is still a threat they can extend his sentence.

There is no way this ****er will get out. Even if he did im sure he wouldnt last long at all..

For those people who don't understand the 21 years is not going to be the real sentence. He will be assessed as a risk to himself or others and have time added on indefinitely until it ends. He is in for life.

Kinda like how Julian Knight will never see the light of day, even tho he is due for release soon too yeah?

No, I don't think we could hold Knight indefinitely, happy to be overruled here as I am just going of the top of my head here.

This fool was sentenced just before. He was considered sane & got 21yrs with 10 before being eligible for parole.

Unbelievable really.

Actually it's essentially a life sentence in Norway. Once they get to the end of the 21 years the judge can condemn him again if he sees him as a danger to anyone. Since the dude admitted that he would go out and do it again if he had the chance then there is no way he's getting out.

Good.

Less than 4 months per kid killed in cold blood is a tad light.

The reports that all of the media are putting out are leaving one very important detail out, I guess in an attempt to create furore and controversy and to drive people to leave messages on their websites. And all for their own revenue.

The one thing they mostly are leaving out is the word "forvaring". It basically means that Breivik can be held in containment and be resentenced at the end of his current sentence. At the end of his current sentence he can apply for release and if the court believes he is still a danger to society (which they will) he will be put back in for a minimum 10 years. Rinse and repeat until he is a rotting corpse in a box.

So, everyone just calm down. The Norwegians are not going to let this guy out. They just have a different legal system to ours. But they no what they are doing.

Yeah this is really their version of parole. Criminals get a chance after every sentence they serve to show if they are reformed. If they're not, the sentence is renewed.

"In the safest, most boring country, the worst lone gunman shooting happens. The worst in the world, in history. But it will not make our country worse. The safe, boring democracy will supply him with a defense lawyer as is his right. He will not get more than 21 years in prison as is the maximum extent of the law. Our democracy does not allow for enough punishment to satisfy my need for revenge, as is its intention. We will not become worse, we will be better. We lived in a land where this is possible, even easy. And we will keep living in a land where this is possible, even easy. We are open, we are free and we are together. We are vulnerable by choice. And we will keep on like that, that’s how we want to live. We will not be worse because of the worst. We must be good because of the best."

What they really should have done is locked him up in a mental institution. Apparently he wanted to go to prison and said being locked up in a MI would be a "fate worse than death".

Hmmm unless they dont protect him in prison and let the others have a field day on him, im sure that wouldnt be the case, lol.
