To save time for all concerned I thought we should simply categorize the standard lines to roll out when our teams lose. Just reading some of the posts in the last couple of days I think I can narrow it down to a short list (thanks Bomber fans !!!)
1. Injuries.....Oh but we were without (insert name of barely average player here), (some other guy no-one has every heard of), (some champ who has been out for 6 weeks and it hasn't been mentioned when the team has won).
2. Umpires.....There were 17 free kicks to 14 in the 2nd half which clearly cost us the game...the umprires were woeful. (we lost by 16 goals and did not take 1 contested mark but it was the umpires that lost it for us).
3. It is only the ansett cup. At some stage in between running onto the ground and the first bounce the team decided not to try. This included deliberately running away form the ball, kicking backwards, not spoiling, handing the ball to the opposition etc etc.
4. Yes...but at least we will be around next year (shame Walshy.... shame)...trotted out to North or Western Bulldogs just after they have thumped you by 20 goals.....standard comeback...."at least we will still be here in September".
5. "That Mark" - Geelong Fans.....narrowing a whole game down to one incident...normally in the last 10 minutes fo the game....ignoring the other 3500 incidents which occured throughout the course of play.
6. We had 23 scoring shots to 15 but lost by 6 goals (lots of experience with this one)....as if kicking for goal is not actually part of the game....no one every says..."yes but we had 45 defensive spoils to their 33".
In future I suggest we refer to this list to save time....eg Port lose I will simply say "Number 5 !!!"....to save time. By doing this at games it will clearly confuse the hell out of everyone else and also act as a secret code for BF posters.
