HA HA HA HA HA! Until today I haven't been able to enjoy the Crows misery as much as usual, but how that's changed!

Port Adelaide are now the pride of South Australia. The Crows? Well they're just 'The Rest of South Australia'.

This must be as bad as it gets for Crows fans. Crows beaten by an innings at the WACA and Port thrashing one of the premiership fancies. Even wooden spoon masters St Kilda are in front of you! And now you have to face a desperate Brissy Lions on their home ground.

ZERO and FIVE coming up - NINE losses in a row! Crows plumbing new depths. Great to see!

Yes, I should have thought more carefully before using that ndp - I could find myself in trouble with people in very high places in the South Australian establishment ;-)

I just wanted to pick the name of some real evil bastard for that topic...

I went to have a look at the Cows website fans' forum but they've taken it down! This is about the only forum their members have to communicate with the club heirarchy and now that's been cut off.

I'm getting visions of an angry mob, bearing flaming torches, making its way through the streets of Adelaide to Football Park chanting "give us the head of Gary Ayres..."

Actually there is a members only forum which has not been shut down. Those of us with access to it will make our presence felt there.

As for the Power, you've won one game and all of a sudden you're out of the woodwork and acting like you've won a GF. You beat Brisbane. And? Don't get too carried away just yet kiddies.

As for the AFC... I believe it comes down to preparation. I don't think its just a problem with the coach or the players. It's the whole Club. You just can't say sack the Coach. The players are responsible for generating their own insperation and enthusiasim they cant rely on Gary to rev thenm up 100% of the time. They are now professional footballers who train day and night. Is that overkill? Is having three assitiants overkill? Surely a senior coach should be able to handle the defensive side of his team? we've been training since november - all through that period everyone at the AFC told its supporters that they were keen to atone for last year - yet our skills, commitment and work ethic are disgraceful! What have we been doing in the pre season?

Which brings me to my point. Football teams don't lose games, football clubs do. Blight said that and he's right. The whole club - players, coach, management - are responsible for our current situation. What we have to do this week is examine our preparation for last weeks game and ensure it does'nt happen next week. That's not gonna be easy though...

Cheers

Do you think that the AFC as a whole has just become satisfied with the 2 premierships? Has the hunger gone?

I get the feeling that if Ayres was able to get AFC into the finals, no-one would be that keen to play you. Any team with players like McCleod, Jarman, Bickley, Rehn, et al is bound to be dangerous. The thing is that while Adelaide had a very ordinary home and away during the '97 and '98 seasons, Blight was able to run a brilliant finals campaign in both years. As for Ayres, his finals record with Hawthorn, working with Blight to take Geelong to the '94 GF, then taking the Cats by himself to the '95 one, and add that to the '96 and (unlucky) '97 campaigns, and you realise that Ayres has more finals coaching experience than what people realise. So, the materials for finals are there, but is the club hungry enough to put it together?

Everyone here knows that Essendon are hungry to atone for last year. Ditto for Brisbane and the Bulldogs. North strive for success as do the Eagles, and clubs like Melbourne, Collingwood, Sydney (post-Lockett) and Hawthorn are desperate to prove themselves too. Do you think that Adelaide is still hungry?

Cheers

As a player, Gary Ayres was terrific. As a coach he hasn't done anything, and he is taking over a club that has won 2 of the last 3 flags, with all their injured players coming back. The winner out this whole scenario is Geelong, they would be rubbing their hands with glee, I know its early days, but the Cats are really starting to look the goods with Bomber Thomson in charge, and they got rid of a lot of experience players last year!!!

Hang on - he took Geelong to the Grand Final in 1995 and made the finals again in 96 and 97. If it wasn't for that shameful umpiring mistake in the final at Football Park in 97, history could have been a lot different. For both clubs.

Am I the only one who spent 15 minutes on the Adelaide website trying to figure out where this fan forum was only to come back and realise I was 20 years late??
The forum is still there, go have another look
