I'll be more worried about nailing our first rounds let alone second

2012. Menzel is a brilliant talent that should come good....Very good.
2013. Cripps is................Cripps.
2014. Boekhorst looks lively and likely to me.....................Proof at top level required.

A fit Menzel and a good run from Boekhorst and Rogers will look like genius.
In the same time Richmond have taken Vlastuin, Lennon & Ellis. I know which trio I'd sooner have.

Agreed, finally nailing firsts (if Boek comes good)

The next 4 years will be huge though. Pluck two A grade mids and Two A grade KPP and we will be on the march. We have some nice early pieces now for the rebuild. It looks that a lot of our current kids are probably AFL level, which is a huge change to only 3 years ago.

I have made it very clear that i have a man crush on Menz and Cripps :D. Boehorst hasnt made it into my list as yet....but time will only tell. nailing the first rounds i think is the key, all others will follow hence the past 2-3 seasons. Prior to that was chook lotto IMO.

I think that Rogers has left behind some good people that WILL have a say when it comes to who we take.
Rogers reached beyond the numbers and looked for character along with talent and in his words, "The best player for Carlton"
If all that mattered was stats and KPI's, we wouldn't have Cripps on our list. It's that simple.

It's hard to gauge from a distance but my feeling is that SOS came along with all guns blazing but may be softening his approach towards the practical and pragmatic. That's likely to be wrong but just weeding through the signals we've caught onto.

Prior to that we had a recruiter that may have been heavily influenced from outside.
Hughes may have been terrible for all I know but players such as Lucas and Bootsma may not have been taken due to not fitting current profile criteria.

It may be something like that and it may not be, but it sort of looks that way.

Gee I'm bloody glad that aint the case.

You see JaB, you're missing the point again.

Some people never ask questions and just go along with, "It's just the way it is" motif.
In this current age of football (life) you have to know how to develop a culture and then have players buy into it.
Some of that culture comes about through trust, consideration, proper development where each individual feels a part of the whole.
Maybe you don't subscribe to that notion and just look at people as flesh for sale but it works when it's honest....See Geelong & Hawthorn for examples.

Sitting behind a computer and using stats as the determining factors in your selections won't work.
You have to know the player, their families, their likes, their dislikes etc etc in order to make an informed assessment and then try to piece all those things together with an eye towards the next year and the one after that.
Garlett wanted to go wherever Rogers went, before Rogers was given another three years for a MLG **** up.
Some people have a 'human' understanding about them and some just don't. I know which boss I'd sooner work for.

Oh and we traded our second rounder for Barnaby French and a late second rounder which was then stripped from us. We effectively got French for nothing.
