Not Worth A Thread - Random Bulldog Discussion - Part 2

Dear Mods

Fossie 32 Mutt _Mike_

I am extremely disappointed that the Other Worldly Circus thread has been deleted.

Whist I may not have agreed with some views expressed there, I like every one else, can choose not to engage, ignore and if the thread does not interest me, not click on it all.

I found the thread to be engaging, and whilst not everyone's cup of tea, a source of important discussion at an historical watershed.

The we won you lost does not interest me. The stakes are too high to be mired at that level. There are some exceptionally knowledgeable and articulate contributors on this subject on this board. I don't need to or want to venture to the swamp that is the main board for these discussions and insights.

I feel very strongly that this thread should be reinstated with appropriate thread bans for those who would draw it down to tribal bragging rights.

There are voices that need to be heard.

My decision, fwiw and as it relates to me, is that should the thread not be reinstated by 6pm this Sunday, I'll close my account and not return in protest.

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"

The platforms for free speech diminish by the day and the pace of it is set to accelerate. Let this place not be a casualty.
There are numerous forums for discussions about US politics. You have plenty of opportunities to discuss US politics on those forums.

Over many months, other mods and I warned the thread participants to abide by the site rules. We were concerned that the thread was toxic and created division between Bulldogs supporters about issues that in no way related to football. We warned the thread participants on numerous occasions that the behaviour needed to improve for the thread to remain open. These warnings were ignored and the thread remained a negative presence on this forum and a burden on the mods due to the constant need to monitor and intervene in the thread.

The decision to finally close the thread was supported by moderators and site management. It will not be reopened.

Every journey has an end. I guess this is it.

It's been fun.

I was also disappointed at the thread's deletion---thought there was plenty of good discussion amongst the nonsense, and that the nonsense was pretty easy to tune out. This is not to say I don't understand that it may be a lot easier to delete an entire thread than to continuously peruse it for content that conflicts with the site's rules; it's just that the result is a little annoying.

Sure did. I stopped reading/contributing to that thread months ago, but prior to that put about a dozen posters on "ignore".

That thread being deleted doesn't change my mind though. Those posters no longer exist in my world, Bulldogs supporters or not. And I don't really miss them in footy threads either.

Yeah got a bit tiresome seeing it. Maybe it can be moved to a sub board or something? The majority of people don’t care.

Did anything in there contravene rules though? Just some silly opinions. Easily ignored if anyone wished to do so.

Tired of seeing the title of a thread you never entered? Hardly reason to delete the whole thing for those that did enjoy reading/contributing.

There were long periods where more than half of the contributions contravened the site rules. Perhaps you didn't see them because the offending posts were deleted. There were dozens of them...maybe more, I lost count. I estimate that I deleted about a hundred or more posts, and other mods intervened as well.

Yes, I was tired of seeing the title of a thread I never entered.

I don't delete things, but I'm glad it's gone.

I'll never understand the amount of angst that thread seemed to engender in people that didn't participate in it.

So, it would get bumped to the top of the board when people had a view to express. Big deal.

The thread had a tendency towards the amusingly surreal hostility at times, but it never reached the levels of hostility that it saw just because it was at the top of the board from time to time. Personally I find the constant bumping of the coaching discussion to be tiresome. Do I bitch and moan to the mods about it? Nope, because Im a fully formed adult with the ability to compartmentalise my views across a wide spectrum of topics without seeing the sight of one triggering me.

It was long running enough for people to understand the robustness of its discussion. Something as a participant I quite enjoyed and being an adult I could seperate the views of my many opponents with those that they expressed on football matters. Indeed I couldn't care less about them one way or the other. Im here to express mine, if you don't agree with them so be it. We can have it out .

If people didn't like it then they could've just availed themselves of a little self control and ignore or scroll by to the rolling inanity that is the other 30 active threads on the board. Or better still revisit our countless other deluded embarrassments further back.

You guys really wanna look in the mirror when it comes to judging the quality of discourse, levels of toxicity and faux camaraderie that abounds in this place.

Be it, the constant carping about coaches, players, the club itself. Or posting player related rumours pulled from your or your mates arse. Its not that far removed from a thread that nobody ever need open, but was the subject of so much ire.

One that afaik wasn't just locked but was scrubbed completely from the site like it was a discussion on the merits of child grooming.

Anyways...It's not really a hill I'd want to die on, but the closure of that thread and the typically hamfisted way it was done makes this place an even duller experience for its absence.

Go team.

Fair enough Mutt. Can't say I check the doggies forum that often these days so that is very believable.
I did enjoy having an off topic thread with just doggies supporters in there though.

Far out. I find that wild.
I have no interest in horse racing - I just don't go in to that thread. Struggle to see anyway how such a tiny, irrelevant thing could affect me negatively.

Agreed, 100%

I totally understand that, you look past it because it's not something you wish to contribute to. In a perfect world you'd like it not to be there, but you're understanding that's not the world we live in and appreciate why it exists. All of those things are true for me with the thread that was deleted.

Will happily admit and own that me not wanting to read the thread title every time I come on to this board is a petty and selfish reason to be glad its gone but it is what it is.

Damn, near $100 increase. Might be time to reconsider my package
I just buy it month by month when i work out most of our games are on Kayo for that month and disconnect it when we have free to air. Might be different this year with Sat night all being on Kayo - guess I’ll go to the pub.

I did ask the club in the membership survey last year why anyone who already has a membership can’t “add on Kayo digital membership at a much discounted rate” and never got a response. At least they listened about the Member Cap / Scarf that the $20 voucher was a waste of time when you had to add nearly $20 shipping to it to get it to Qld. This year it was free shipping for those member items

I only just saw this - i occasionally went on there but not often.

This is pure speculation but how is it able to stay up throughout a Biden presidency but as soon as Trump returns to power it becomes unsustainable and causing issues.

Not fazed that its gone, just interesting

Back onto the Kayo pricing - if I’m reading it correctly, the $25 monthly package isn’t changing price, just the name and the Basic is changing to Premium and going up from $35 to $40. It’s my understanding that you can watch with 2 users on the Premium package.

So by my calculations, if you and a mate were to say go halves in a subscription, you could share the $40 and both still watch separately - 12 months x $20 is $240 - why would i pay $300 plus for a digital membship….you don’t even need to have it for 12 months….even if you just want it during footy season, say 9 or 10 months its cheaper

Cue KAyo reading this and changing the rules like Netflix

You can share the kayo account from the dogs membership with a mate too - comes out cheaper than month by month.

Perfect example of the type of rubbish the thread in question specialised in.

But what does it matter? You can choose to click on it .... or not. You have a choice. And if you do choose to click on it you can further sift the wheat from the chaff according to your judgement.

There is a gap between stimulus and response that allows people time to consider their response .. if they respond at all. Regrettably, a lot of people/posters don't recognise the gap.

So again, regrettably, we just default to the LCD and primarily accomodate those who lack any form of self control by deleting the stimulus.

Anyways, in 28 hours it will be neither here nor there to me.
