Hes got fit..... he keeps running towards the ball....even if it is only to get himself in the game...it can be pretty shit when you fit, fired up....and ready to go... and the ball is not where you want it.... SJ's answer... go and grab it myself... i like it.
Another good point. Johnson has never been fitter in his life, and he is making the most of it.

bdp, reckon every AFL coach would say they are quite chuffed when they see the most dangerous opposition forward running around in the back half getting kicks.

Agree... i dont think he should go that deep... but i think he should get himself into the game anyway hes wants too.... also cant discount that his man might of had something to do with it...

for goal or kicking to forwards?

his kicking for goal is one of the most frustrating things about him...misses that shot directly in front but then slots one from around 45-50m out or that crazy set shot where he walked to the man on the mark then snaps it (which my dad and me turned and just had to laugh at).

His goal kicking has improved dramatically over the past 12 months. These days, he is one of the most reliable shots at goals out of all our forwards.

most reliable shot in play in yes, for a set shot id prefer chapman or ling.

I did say one of.... Yes, Johnson, Ling, Chapman and Bartel would be my preferred players having set shots.

Chappy snapping round his body... ill back him in 100%
Chappy having a set shot...... eh.... i hold my breath.....

Um... He usually smashes them through. Who, besides Ling is a more reliable set shot at goal than Chappy?

The problem is, our best set shot kicks at goals are players who rotate through the midfielders or are midfielders, not forwards.

I wish the Mooney of 04 would come back. He was deadly in front of the big sticks.

I don't like to see him chasing kicks in the back half - but boy is he creative anywhere in front the center diamond (or whatever it is). Against Hawthorn his numerous passes into the fifty hit blokes on the chest monotonously. So I certainly don't him in the midfield. Just don't let him past that spot, because he tried to do too much with it sometimes and I've certainly seen him stuff it up down back enough that he should not be allowed down there.

One thing that did frustrate me a bit was a few times when he had the ball in the pocket, there was no one between him and the goals, yet he would run deeper into the pocket rather than towards the goal.

wtf happened there? passed up a gimme.

was it a left side thing?

Rooke is also quite accurate in front of goal. But Johnsons accuracy has improved alot. It used to be he would have to be practically standing on his head on the boundary line with one player hanging of him and another pelvis thrusting him in the face before he could kick a goal. Now he is reasonable.

Are you referring to the one at the Ablett Tce end where he was at the back of the marking pack, and he had a free run into goals but darted left towards the boundary?
If so, it was clear he thought he was about to be tackled so tried to evade... unfortunately the closest player to him at that moment was Mooney, and I don't think he was about to tackle SJ. He could have strolled in... oh well.
