Our clinical dismantling of St Kilda has proven that we can beat best sides in the competition and the previous month was merely an aberration.

So now that we have momentum behind us and all our most experienced players back fit and firing, will we make the eight?

Run home to September
Bombers - Bulldogs (Marvel), Fremantle (away), Collingwood (MCG)

Us - West Coast (away), Collingwood (home), Bulldogs (Ballarat)

Port Power - Sydney (home), North Melb (away), Fremantle (home)

Bulldogs - Essendon (Marvel), GWS (away), Adelaide (Ballarat)

Fremantle - St Kilda (away), Essendon (home), Port (away)

Intriguing match ups
A few teams from this crew are playing each other which is good and bad. Guarantees a loss which is nice but also guarantees one of them a win:
Rnd 21 Essendon vs Western Bulldogs at Marvel
Rnd 22 Fremantle vs Essendon at Optus Stadium
Rnd 23 Western Bulldogs vs Adelaide at Ballarat
Rnd 23 Port Power vs Fremantle at Adelaide Oval

Desire
Do we (the fans) actually want to make the finals anyway? Might be worse to sneak in and reassure the powers that be that we are on the right track. Seems counter intuitive for fans of a club to shy away from making the finals but here we are.

Sydney must win. If Sydney win, that keeps our Carlton pick at 3, keeps Port well out of the 8 and strengthens our claim to 8th, which means we play finals and Carlton's pick from us is worse. Win Swans. Just win.
Spot on. I was concerned for Saints dropping below the Blues but those two wins on the trot helped turn that around. Then we have the issue with Sydney. They need to win a game because the Blues should win one the game against the Saints but that will be it. If Sydney can win one game then their percentage should keep them above the Blues.

With the teams in the eight I have the Bombers missing out with Port and Adelaide both getting in. Will be interesting to see how it all ends up.

% now an issue. Port very likely to overtake ours now.

Will mean we probably need to win all 3 to get in.

I predict: A loss this week (possibly semi-intentionally through resting/experimental lineup) but can see the full gamut of potential results from the last two.

The whole "Make the finals and anything can happen" stereotype is total bunk at the best of times. Even less so this year when the draft position is strong regardless. IMHO the greater risk this year is narrowly missing the finals and having the year posthumously declared a "development/rebuilding year" and therefore a positive result.

How could it possibly be called “a development/rebuilding year” when we haven’t done so. The only development that has been occurring this winter is my alcoholic issues watching us play!

Making the 8 is pointless from here.

It will just give us an away game against Richmond, GWS or Collingwood that we will lose without so much as a whimper, while also sandbagging the positions of Chapman, Burton et al.

For the sake of change we need port to go past us and knock us out the 8. We need maximum embarrassment to force change at the top.

It’s going to happen.

We won’t win another game and Port will at least beat Sydney and Freo.

Plus West Coast are going to pummel our percentage if they are switched on which they will be given their need for percentage

Two years out of the eight and both years behind Port means our club hierarchy may actually consider real change is needed.

The problem is that the real change that's needed is TO the hierarchy, and that's the last thing they're going to do. They're all doing just fine where they are, thank you very much. Those chairs have been worn in, got that nice little groove in them from having the same ar$es planted on them day after day, year after year. If you think a single one of them is going to do what's best for the club at the expense of what's best for themselves, you are sadly mistaken.

Well at least we got games into Douglas and Mackay. Otten cropped up for a couple late in the year, looks a likely type. Wilson looks like he has a long term future at this level, too.
