The NRL is a mess and Abdo as usually does absolutely nothing to quell the irate fans, players, coaches and media. When the media is having a go at this regime, you know it’s bad after the amazing deal Vlandel did for them in exchange for nothing but praise.

Why does it have to be at Suncorp every year on that awful pitch? Why can't it be in Sydney?

Is it cos the QLD govt paid x million bucks, is it just about money?

That but also this is to appease them for never getting the GF.

Like it or not, as a general rule they do support the game better, and they get less football in Brisbane than we do in Sydney.

The surface is horrific, though.
The supporting the game better comes from having fewer teams I think.

They just need to get the surface right and they'd be laughing!

If you could guarantee 50k per day in Sydney I'm sure it would be discussed. Suncorp just is perfect for this event.

Friday
Cronulla vs Parramatta
Roosters vs Dolphins

Saturday
Souths vs Newcastle
Warriors vs North Queensland
Wests Tigers
vs Dragons

Sunday
Gold Coast vs Canterbury
Penrith vs Brisbane
Melbourne
vs Canberra

Hard tipping this week again! Wouldn't surpise me if I get 0 from 8.

If Penrith lose I think they're toast for the year...

worst round ever to tip as they are all neutral

Gone with

Parra- just think the short turnaround from a Golden Point game is tough for Cronulla, more a gut feel though
Dolphins- Form team in the comp right now hard to see the Roosters getting close
Souths- with utterly no confidence, think they score points though and Newcastle can't score at all.
NQ- Yeah no confidence I'll pick the side that I feel should be better, but yeah this one will not shock me one single bit
Tigers- Dragons are so cooked.
Dogs- This one has upset written all over it though, Dogs have half their side out.
Brisbane- too good at home but it's not with a lot of confidence
Storm- this one is purely more a who am I more confident on, I've struggled to get a read on the Raiders despite them winning

Because it’s the annual Donkeys charity round. The fact they still suck no matter how many leg ups they get is hilarious!!!

I've struggled to get a read on the Raiders despite them winning

For years now, I've thought of the Raiders as being, in the immortal words of the commentator on Wigan TV, "bowling-shoe ugly"! :D But this season, for what seems the first time in living memory, they are actually playing some good, fast, entertaining rugby.

See also the Dogs.

No Thursday game for Magic Round? What's up with that?

Pretty devo with the Fogarty news today. However I think the Raiders do an ok job of keeping fans in the loop, while being respectful to players, so that it's not a surprise when this happened. It wasn't a surprise when Wighton left 2 years ago, Fogarty wasn't a surprise today.

Friggen sucks though :(

Yep took me 4-5 weeks to start coming around to the Dogs, I still don't think they win though, the spine is still mediocre. Raiders have some players in career best form, Young especially it's probably the first year where if Young was picked for NSW you'd be saying yeah no issue deserves it on form

Dogs could get lucky - there's no standout leader at the moment to really challenge them.

As much as I'm excited about the Bears coming in, I already think the league has been stretched in terms of talent.

I've said before that i'm not convinced the Dogs have the roster to go all the way. But in a season where most sides, apart from the Storm perhaps, seem to be struggling, they have a head-start.

Yeah I do agree with that, this year just screams random winner. I mean lets look at the realistic chances and if I miss your side I appologise but realistically personally these are the realistic chances

Storm- by defualt they sure aint $3 to win favourites though jeez
Brisbane- Still think their best wins it, but rely on a few players and if any aren't there including their halfback who is prone to bad injuries they are cooked
Cowboys- weren't confident before the season they are the ones that look a bucket better than I thought
Warriors- do they have the class? Who on earth knows
Sharks- yeah they aint winning with Nico at 7, but whatever they don't get a better shot
Dogs- Their spine is a query, but love their coach!

Who else is there? Raiders surely don't win with how young they are, Panthers are cooked, Roosters same.

Surely there's plenty enough young talent coming through?

Maybe not such a bad thing, though. Like you say, everyone can produce a bit of good rugby, but come the crunch, who knows?

To a degree yeah, but then people want 2 more sides in, I'm yet to hear how on earth this is a good thing! The talent is not there, it's already diluted and clubs are paying three arms and a leg for halves. Not sure what I'd prefer dominant teams or the ability for anyone in the 8 to win, hard one, probably would prefer seeing a great side win but not so much on GF day

I didn’t think I would say this in a million years 5-6 weeks ago.

I actually think this is a season where, for the exact reasons you listed, a team like my d**khead roosters could pinch a title if they somehow scraped into the 8.

1. The only team with proven finals quality is Melbourne
2. Brisbane are talented but fallible and we’ve already beaten them
3. The Dogs have played some really good footy but again they haven’t really had to beat a lot so far
4. As pathetic as we have been, we are 3-5 and really we should be 6-2. The Panthers and Broncos defeats are the only games we should have lost. The rest we had full control over with 20 minutes to play and pushed the self destruct button.

All of that has been with a side still more or less playing its first two months of footy together and with only one playmaker given that Chad Townsend may as well not have been there.

When Sam Walker comes back and possibly Brandon Smith depending on what his role would be, it’s hard to see us not being a lot better again considering he led the comp for try assists last year.

If we were to be within striking distance, given that it does look like a season where the winner could just come from a team just going on a bit of a tear for a month, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a side like us or Canberra, NQ, or if they scraped into 7-8, obviously Penrith, who won.

For all that, there’s also the very real possibility that ‘make Phat Boy throw his remote through the screen’ Roosters re-appear 3 out of 4 weeks and we claim the spoon.
