We all know that as per tradition the AFL GF is always the last Saturday of September, which this year happens to be the same weekend as the NRL GF which seems to be building a tradition of staging their GF in the first Sunday of October.

It seems that the first Sunday of October was chosen because it is the day before Labour day in NSW allowing for GF celebrations well into the night.

Next year Labour day in NSW falls on the 1st October

http://www.industrialrelations.nsw.gov.au/holidays/

which means that the NRL GF could well infact be staged on the 30th Sept the same weekend as the AFL GF again and not the first Sunday of October (7th) as per previous years

So when will the NRL 2007 GF be held?

I would assume that we would have the same weekend Grand Finals again.

There's certainly no tradition in holding it on the first Sunday in October, and I can't think of any other legitimate reason.

Sorry? I don't understand you Hoops. It's on the same weekend as the AFL GF this year and it's never been held on the 'First Monday of October'?

Anyway, wait for the fixtures to be released shortly after the Grand Final and you should have your answer. :thumbsu:

I've always found it mildly amusing that the NRL hold the game on the Sunday when there's a public holiday ONLY in NSW. Great for them but what about us and the Broncos fans who have to front up to work the next day?

The NRL is more NSW-centric than the AFL is Victoria-centric. Fancy switching to Sunday night Grand Finals when the only ones that can celebrate properly are those in NSW who have the next day off.

The atmosphere of a night grand final might be great if you are there. Watching it on TV is like hanging about waiting for the Logies to start and watching it while doing the dishes and ironing my shirts for work the next day.

There hasn't been any tradition of the first Sunday of October, just that the previous 5 Grand Finals have been night grand finals so it revolves around NSW Labour Day - infact the first night grand final was on the 30th Sep as well.

It was worse the year the Warriors made it, with the game finishing around midnight their time I think.

I agree. If they want a night game, it should be Saturday night, otherwise Sunday afternoon.

In saying that, I'm not going to complain cause its going to be a great game either way.

Too true.

It's too late by the time kickoff gets around, if you've managed a few beers during the Footy afternoon, by the time the main game starts, your gorne.

As you say, no Public Holiday, exept NSW ,it's hard to get to the game and back for work the next day.

The game doesn't finish till late, the kids find it hard to stay up, plus school the next day.

If NZ warriors make it, they have to stay up till 9:30 just for the kick off, it's after midnight by the time the game finishes, how the hell can kids watch it?

I mean, we seen in 2002 when NZ made it, the whole country went Warriors mad, yet the kids have to stay up till midnight.

Some parents are strict, they will not let their kids stay up late for anything.

The whole thing is completely wrong, if they want it at Night, either move it to Saturday to help people or put the Kick off at 5:30-6:30.

I bet NZ would love it moved a couple of hours forward.

Agree. I don't have a problem with the Sunday fixture. Saturday is AFL GF day so it makes sense for the NRL to have their own day.
5.30pm kick-off still gives you time to sink a few beers during the arvo and maybe fire up the BBQ for lunch and be in front of the TV at 5pm. Game and presentations finish up 7.30-8pm. Everyone's a winner.
