So Henriques has gone back to back 180s? In the last NSW game the commentators were harping on about that.

nah 180 in the first dig the weekend before, and followed up with 5 wickets in the same match day two. i don't know why he didn't bowl in the second innings?? He must have been there because Mosman were 2 down overnight so both their ininngs were played out on day two.

Well Clarke, Watson, Haddin, Smith (Why?) Bollinger (Why?) Lee (good to see) and Hauritz all in the one day squad and world cup squad, so that is essentially them done for the season.

So I think our side for the rest of the year in the shield should be something like

Hughes
Maddinson
Khawaja
Katich (c)
Jaques/Warner
Henriques
Nevill
O'Keefe
Clark
Copeland
Cameron

Starc a possibility if fit, but only for Stuart Clark.

like it. think warner should be in for Jaques. I like Phil and he's a really good guy, but i think his back is absolutely stuffed.

oh goodie we can go back to having a normal squad instead of trying to fit in hauritz and o'keefe and also dougeh. warner was pretty unlucky to miss out earlier this season - 200 in the 2nd xi match, 100 in a grade and then 90 odd coming in at 8 the day after an od match in Perth - so he should get first go

Futures League match against Vic

New South Wales U23s: Stephen Cush, Steve Colley, Peter Forrest (c), Tim Armstrong, James Henry, Chris Small, Jason Ryan (wk), Sean Abbott, Adam Zampa, Nicholas Bills, Corrie Boss, Gurinder Sandhu (12th)

8/264 (82.3 overs)
S.Abbott 66*
T.Armstrong 61
A.Zampa 45*

The full squad of 12 is:

Stuart CLARK (C)
Trent COPELAND
Scott COYTE
Patrick CUMMINS
Moises HENRIQUES
Phillip HUGHES
Usman KHAWAJA
Peter NEVILL
Stephen O’KEEFE
Ben ROHRER
Daniel SMITH
David WARNER

will hopefully cummins plays over coyte. thought doran might have been a chance with hauritz now gone again
Doran is injured. got pulled out of the futures game with a facial injury.

would like to see cummins play too. don't know if he's ready for state cricket yet but anyway. it's only a 20/20 game.

will be interesting. the three overs i saw him bowl the other weekend would have been mid to high 130's i reckon. couple of balls could quite possbily have got into the 140's.... it's hard to tell live. he wasn't super quick but at 17 years of age that's getting up there. fastest kid i faced as that age was cameron nupier from campbelltown (may have moved clubs now) and he was bloody quick, but cummins definately had him beat for pace. and he had hauritz rushing his shots a bit. what was very impressive was his action and line.

was bowling a similar pace to burt cockley who was bowling about an hour before him, but Cummins looked like he had a lot left in the tank whereas Cockley died in the ass after about 2 or 3 overs and started bowling a load of short shit and was subsequently taken out of the attack.

the old man saw cummins bowl in second grade last year in about february and said "it was one of the quickest spells i've seen in grade cricket in a long time".... also ran into the guy who was facing him on the same day at the sydney test just gone and asked him about it and he said "it was the quickest bowling he's faced in ten years" (this lad's opened the batting in first and second grade since about 1990 so he'd be well placed to make a judgement like that) but he also added "it helped Cummins that he was bowling at the end of the first day after penrith were dismissed so he knew he only had to give about 5 overs and that was it for the day, and he had a pretty good breeze behind him.... the weekend after he was still quick but definately dropped a couple of yards in pace."

that's pretty much all the information i can give.

but it's clear that Cricket NSW have big plans for him. As said earlier i just hope it's not another case of annointing someone very early....

EDIT:

just noticed copeland is in the squad. doesn't normally get a gig in these one's but i suppose there's been a few injuries and international call ups (Dougeh, Starc, Hazlewood).... Why isn't Cameron in the squad??

I reckon Cummins would be more suited to the short form than Copeland.

Would prefer Copeland was kept as far away from one day cricket as possible, not his scene.

i wonder if henriques got man of the match. 180 and a 5-for in the first innings for st george on the weekend. copeland took two 3-fors so would be good for him to the in the wickets. it's probably been his leanest month wicket's wise in a long long time (except of course, obviously for those winter months :p)

cummins has been called into standby for the 20/20 game against Tasmania. as shown i'm a fan, but i hope this isn't another case of annointing someone very early on. having a decent enough season though with 18 wickets at 24 from 11 matches. and i don't mind bringing youngsters in for 20/20 games.

i wonder where someone like shane mott is in the selectors eyes. i could be wrong but i'm sure he's about 25 or 26, which definately sholdn't be considered past it. 115 wkts at 20.09 since the start of 2008/09. Also took 55 wickets at 17 in 2006/07, but not sure what he did in 2007/08... He was a top 5 wicket taker last season and runaway so far this season with 41 already, jackson bird second on 34 and josh lalor third on 30.... maybe mott is older but i'm sure i remember him being on the scoresheets for PG's back around 04/05ish. Stand corrected if anyone else knows....

i find it curious that steve cush was selected as one of the three overrage players for the future's league when he has a highest score of 73 in first grade over the last two seasons... his family is/was (pretty sure the links were pretty well kept through the generations) very well known within cricketing administration circles.

EDIT:

just found on Hawkesbury web site he was part of their 2005/06 PG's winning team* and he was in the NSW under 17 team in squad for 2001/02 which would mean at most Mott is 26.

*just as a sidenote that was some team - also had John Hastings, Peter Forrest, Steve O'Keefe and James Henry (in NSW second XI team)... most of whom have left for other clubs (played at benson's lane a few times. definately the hottest ground in sydney)
I play for the Hawks in 4th grade. Let me tell you, its a disgrace he doersn't have a state contract. Has been in the top 5 wicket takers since he was 21. Very handy hitter down the bottom of the innings, inside out of cover shot is a joy to watch. Extremely fit and committed to his phsycial work, and has a bullet arm in the field. Extremely atheltic, and covers ground well too.

We aren't known for a state players but we are starting to develop a few younger lads that are coming through the aged NSW ranks. Hopefully they can follow in the footsteps of Hasto, SOK and FOZ in the coming years...

Good reward for Abbott and Armstrong

RTA SpeedBlitz Blues captain Stuart Clark is the latest bowler to become unavailable through injury after splitting the webbing between his fingers in last night’s loss to Tasmania at ANZ Stadium. Clark has had four stitches inserted into the injury.

Clark joins a long injury list of fast bowlers. Of the current squad Mark Cameron (back), Josh Hazlewood (back), Mitchell Starc (side), Burt Cockley (knee), Nathan Bracken (knee), Joe Mennie (ankle) and Timm Van Der Gugten (back) are all unavailable through injury.

In addition Test opener Simon Katich is still recovering from an Achilles injury, while Nic Maddinson will miss the next month with a broken thumb. Michael Clarke, Doug Bollinger, Brad Haddin, Nathan Hauritz, Brett Lee, Steven Smith and Shane Watson were not considered due to commitments with the Australian One-Day side.

A total of 16 squad members are unavailable.

This has resulted in New South Wales fielding one of the youngest sides in its history.

Moises Henriques (age 23) will captain a team with an average age of 23 years and 329 days.

The game is a vital one for the RTA SpeedBlitz Blues as they need to win their final three matches ( Victoria away on Saturday 22nd January, Queensland away on Monday 24th January and Queensland at home in the Relief Appeal match at ANZ Stadium on Saturday 29th January) to guarantee a spot in the top three.

The full squad is :

Moises HENRIQUES (C)
Sean ABBOTT
Timothy ARMSTRONG
Trent COPELAND
Scott COYTE
Patrick CUMMINS
Phillip HUGHES
Usman KHAWAJA
Stephen O’KEEFE
Ben ROHRER
Daniel SMITH
David WARNER

Shame, Clarks an excellent twenty20 bowler (should be in the Aust side just about).

lol
16 unavailable players, essentially a NSW 2nd/3rd XI against the Vics.

Would be funny if we beat Victoria :p Armstrong should get a go and may as well try Abbott.

I like Armstrong. He's got a real future as a batsmen i reckon. Just so hard to crack into the NSW team at the moment. Pretty handy as a medium pacer too, but i can't believe he's opening the bowling for easts. unfortunately handy doesn't equal opening bowler material... sad state of affairs for them at the moment which is why their stuck down the arse end of the table.

abbott's got a lot of talent. seems a bit stuck in the henriques situation where not quite sure if he's a batsmen who can bowl or a bowler who can bat. he's got a bit of toe with the ball in his hand. i reckon that's his best discipline. got some good runs on the board (79) in the 2nd XI match when we were 6/150 when he came in (and were 7/150 straight away) to get us to 290. but i do feel there are a few blokes who wouldn't mind getting pulled through the ranks like he has. a 3-for and a 4-for early on last season and nothing above a 2-for since is pretty light on to be opening the bowling for the 2nd XI....

hopefully he gets a run cause i wouldn't mind seeing him bowl again. saw a handful of overs a while back and looked pretty good so i was suprised to see his returns for parramatta are so poor cause i reckon he's a better bowler than that. nice action, fairly quick and didn't ball really any loose balls, i was standing at square leg so couldn't tell if he was getting much shape on the ball but given the ball didn't bat i would say probably not...

had to laugh when i heard about pat cummins being "a part of our talent identification program".... what the **** does that mean.

it's this middle management type speak that is ****ing the game over at the moment.

what's wrong with seeing who's scoring runs, who's taking wickets, then going down to watch them play and make the decision as to whether they're capable of taking it to another level and they're not just the sort of batsmen who tears apart lower level crickets or the sort of medium pacer that takes loads of wickets at grade cricket (Grant Lambert and Shawn Bradstreet say hi).... it's a system that's worked well for a long long time.

why the **** is steve smith playing for Australia at present, not in our best ODI XI. Should be back with us playing in the shield, not going to India. Horribly out of form
