If TV wanted that it would have it years back.
TV does want it but, why are we trying out new time slots like Thursday night? As we are trying to have less games on at the same time.

Fox signed their deal with the NRL just after the AFL deal was done the only difference was fox bought all the rights on sold the FTA stuff to 9 and told the NRL how they wanted the weekend structured the NRL use to have Thursday night Friday night Saturday arvo 2 Saturday night games, 2 Sunday arvo games and a Monday night game.

Then Fox got it changed to Thursday night a Friday double header with games at 6 and 8, 3 games back to back on the Saturday and 2 games back to back on Sunday. Now the NRL is the most viewed competition in Australia despite having one less game.

The AFL is harder as games are longer and their is an extra game a weekend to try and fit in

Most of the arguments for a Tas team apply equally well here.

I mean, all you have to do is ignore the population, the economy, and the infrastructure and just keep focusing on how the people there really love the game, and it's unfair for a state (OK, large mainland territory) not to be represented in a code claiming to be national, and there you have it...

NT needs a team. ASAP!

The big difference is the $mils Tas already spends.

3 realistic places for teams IMO

Tassie - but i dont really know how or where the team will be situated
Perth
Sydney - 20 years if their junior growth rate is any guide, but will not be able to use SCG or Giants stadium, must have own ground within its market.

The NT Government needs to stop this nonsense and focus on their economy. Jobs bring people, people bring things like AFL teams. Tasmania could do with that also.

Was aware of that, its the $mils that differ Tas & NT.

Neither is sufficient to support a club, and there is no real reason for that money would be redirected into a local club, so does it really matter all that much?

The degree might vary, but at the end of the day, it's the same arguments, and the same denial of reality required to justify a club.

I'd think Tas is correct to review its expenditure, in this case seeking more bang for its buck.

As for the NT its tourism has been problematic for a while & its a long way from a couple of games to a team.

I dont agree the money the Tas Govt is spending now would not be enough to underwrite the club, but there is another thread for that & we simply disagree.
In the NT its quite different.

A big problem with Auckland is that they just don't attend top level sport. Last year the Blues averaged around 13k, the Warriors 16k. They had an A-League team, but crowds were barely family and friends. This is in a city that's bigger than Adelaide, where the Crows and Power draw 45k and 34k respectively.

If those sports can't draw a crowd, what on earth would make the AFL think they could do better in a market where support levels are far far lower?

We sometimes forget just how well the AFL is attended by world standards. Whilst this is great for the AFL, it makes the barriers to entry for new clubs ridiculously high.
Similar to New South Wales then ?

Because your an expert on both these regions 🤫ffs

Don't need to be an expert to point out that basic requirements for being able to support high level sporting clubs would include things like population and economy.

Our government have just spent 60 million to get an nbl team how much do you think they would spend to get an afl license seriously you are the definition of a broken record 🤫

Except that your government is a charity case.

Any money it spends is the result of the rest of Australia subsidising you.

How much do you think we'll keep giving you if you keep throwing it away on sports teams that can't support themselves?

Ha yeah right you really have no idea we just had our share of the gst revenue drastically cut due to the state being in the best shape it’s been in for decades and the federal government have been one of the major players pushing for us to get a license with the afl also having the federal minister for sport being a Tasmanian doesn’t hurt when it comes to getting funding for sporting ventures but continue please continue on with your unsubstantiated dribbling!
