Players
The eight clubs have been asked to nominate their preferred marquee players. The AFL will try to keep players in their home states, and apparently the players will have a say in their destination.
- The AFL will assign marquee players to clubs, initially this will be limited to two marquee players per club.
- Clubs can submit 5 marquee nominations as a 'wishlist' of which they will receive two players.
- Marquee contracts will be for one season only.
- State based drafts to be held on October 10
- Lottery based draft system
- A father-daughter rule will apply for any father who has played 1 game for any AFL club with a womens license.
- 2 Marquee players for each club were formally announced on July 27.
- The priority selection breakdown allows Carlton, Collingwood, Melbourne, the Western Bulldogs and Fremantle to pre-sign one player who has an association with the club. Adelaide and the Brisbane Lions can each pre-sign two players, while Greater Western Sydney has the option of four.
- The eight clubs also can each list two rookies (players new to the code or who have not been registered in organised football competition over the past three seasons).
- The rest of the clubs' player lists will be completed at the AFL women’s draft in mid-October.
- 2 marquee players.
- 20 drafted players.
- 3 free agents (players who don't get drafted). [This can be ex-players]
- The draft lottery is set for Thursday, September 29, and will be held at Essendon’s annual women’s Grand Final lunch.
- The Draft itself will be held on October 12.
- Nominations for the womens draft are open at http://womensdraft.afl.com.au/

Player Contracts and Payments
Rules
- THE FIRST season of the AFL Women's competition will see teams field 16 players, use a smaller football and play four 15-minute quarters plus time-on.
- Games were originally to be played under normal AFL rules, and Lethlean assured that any tinkering would not compromise the new competition.
- 16 a side was trialled in the final womens exhibition match, and received a favvourable response from Simon lethlean and the players.
- WADA anti-doping rules will apply, as they have for the AFL-sanctioned exhibition games featuring Melbourne and Western Bulldogs.
- Lethlean said in almost every way the women’s league would mirror the AFL’s current policies.
- There will be an MRP, similar to the Mens version.
- Entry to the womens games will be free - except for doubleheaders.
Pre-season training for the eight clubs is due to start on November 21. Clubs are expected to play one practice match each in January, with the competition set to start in the first week of February.
Cost
- The AFL is expected to be prepared to tip in as much as $4 million for the league — effectively bankrolling it — while expecting the clubs to find funds to further strengthen the competition with corporate sponsors and government support.
- CLUBS will return to the AFL with a budget in talks over the next few weeks.
- While the AFL is funding wages and travel, clubs are covering other costs which are believed to be upwards of $400,000.
