What I have heard after doing some digging whether its 100% true I don't know but does makes a bit of sense is that you will find its is true that Nwm said this and that Caro's source is NOT anyone from Port but someone high up at St.kilda. Not the first movie to do it well but its success is credited as one of the new wave of genre action comedy (lethal weapon as well) films that formed what we know as action movies today.

Nearly Every blockbuster action film now is a variation of last Boy Scout / lethal weapon imo. Wise cracking , world weary protag, buddy movie with action set pieces. Chris Hemsworth prob owes his career to this genre lol.

Rankine and Dawson are both better players so should be on more, but thats the cost of recruitment.
