Do you know something the doc in gg's video doesnt?? He is saying 6 months?
Carr's recent tweets have all been suggesting he believes he will be healed enough to play after the bye. I think Carr believes all his praying and his belief in God will cause a minor miracle. That and probably extensive sessions in hyperbolic chambers etc.

Asked about TV shot w/ Mark Davis saying "run" on play Carr hurt, Del Rio said, "We won by 1 score. Wanted to keep pedal down against Luck"
Mark was right. This is why you have three QBs on roster. Should've put in McGloin up 33-7. Especially as Carr just got injured a couple games ago with his fingers. Affecting even our ability to play-call (everything shotgun). Use your pieces/depth more as a season starts winding down.

Don't have the link for this...

Week 17 has a different feel to it than normal for the Oakland Raiders, considering quarterback Derek Carr is out indefinitely with a broken fibula, and the team is just one win away from clinching the AFC West. It’s a bittersweet vibe for the Silver and Black, as the team continues its “Return to Greatness,” but without the leadership of No. 4 on the field.

The loss will require everybody to step up and elevate their game, and the team is more than ready to do just that. After defeating the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday 33-25, the Raiders were back at their Alameda, Calif. facility, and shared their thoughts on the current situation.

Heading into the Raiders matchup with the Denver Broncos, here’s the Week 17 edition of Tell the Truth Tuesday.

Head Coach Jack Del Rio

The Raiders Head Coach said that the team is focused on its objective regardless of who they play or who’s playing.

“It’s all about us moving on with the next opportunity and pulling together as a group of men and being unselfish and sacrificing for each other. All of those things. It doesn’t change. It doesn’t change regardless of who it is. It’s about the team. It’s about us winning. That’s not in any way meant to be insensitive. You always show love and appreciation for anybody who was banged up or has an unfortunate event happen, but the team does carry on.”

Del Rio shared that the team will keep the same approach and go about its business the way it always has.

“We’re going to do what we always do. I think there’s a natural feeling of stepping up and rallying around whoever is playing at whatever position it is. I feel the same about it being the quarterback. I think it’s about us as a team going out and competing against the other team.”

Running Back Latavius Murray

Murray shared his thoughts on the upcoming matchup with the Denver Broncos.

“It’s going to come down getting the reps in practice, but us executing our game plan during the week, coming out working hard, and just going out there and just putting together a good game on offense.”

No. 28 talked about what needs to happen in the wake of Carr’s injury.

“We know we need to run the ball, that’s regardless of who’s taking the snaps, and so we’re going to continue getting better there, be better. Especially now, more than ever.”

Quarterback Connor Cook

Cook spoke about where he feels he can improve as a player and areas he can grow in.

“I think the chemistry with the receivers, the timing with the routes, all that stuff. I think I’m just more confident in the offense, being around, and being in it for a whole year.”

He mentioned that even though there’s a different vibe in the locker room now, he’s going to continue preparing for any situation.

“Just continue watching film, all of the cut ups coaches have made for us of all the situations, stuff like that. It definitely does feel a little bit different, now that I am active, now that I will be able to go out there and have an opportunity incase anything happened.”

Center Rodney Hudson

Hudson spoke about the similarities between Carr and quarterback Matt McGloin.

“They’re very attentive to detail in studying and that kind of stuff, so we’ll just continue with that and get ready to go.”

He was frank, and simply stated that even though Carr’s absence is unfortunate the team must carry on.

“I think nobody wants to lose their starting quarterback, so obviously it was an adjustment for that moment, but we’ve just got to focus in and push forward.”

Apparently it's not outside the realm of possibility, Carr could start vs Denver.

==========

Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr posted an encouraging tweet shortly after his surgery Tuesday where he alluded to “great news” without bringing forth any clarification.

Later, former NFL quarterback and current NFL Network analyst David Carr (Derek’s brother), would go on to tell family friend and morning anchor at the NBC affiliate in Fresno, George Takata, what the “great news” was.

Apparently, the bone had already begun to heal itself prior to surgery.

Takata’s relationship with the Carr family dates back to David’s days as starting quarterback for the Fresno State Bulldogs.

At the time, Takata was in the midst of a 16-year run as the Sports Director of the local CBS affiliate in town.

More details as they come in.

What are some BS anti-Raiders officiating calls over the years that you remember? We all remember the Tuck Rule, Immaculate Reception, Rob Lytle fumble, etc. But what are some others we may have forgot?

  • One of my all-time favorites was maybe like 8-9 years ago playing the Chargers. Late in the game, I believe we were winning narrowly at the time, Vincent Jackson catches a ball over the middle, goes to the ground, isn't touched, gets up and spins the ball to the ground in celebration, one of our defenders alertly dives on it. Clear fumble recovery and an official or two signal Raiders ball. Then the officials huddle and throw a flag and call it an illegal forward pass!!! That one took some creativity and balls to call. To top it off I don't think they even assessed the loss of down as they should have which would have given us the ball back too. Chargers went on to score on that drive and won the game.
  • there's been many...reg season games. one on cincy where their guy knocked a fumble out of bounds....and rules say should have been ours...but refs gave it to them and even though it was way short....gave em a 1st down on top of it. no explanation was ever given.
  • Saragoosa taking out Gannon with no personal foul call.
  • regular season game about 8-10 years ago, there was a kick-off that we returned for a TD, or that the other team returned for a TD, but the player stepped out of bounds, the Raiders coaches were waiting for the video on the screen as they always do to allow a coach to decide whether to throw a flag or not....they never played the video so that the next play happened before we could challenge.
  • many games where a WR/RB is falling to the ground in a tackle, and a second raider comes in at the same time, and they throw flags and call late hit or unsportsmanlike conduct etc tho it was not a head shot or even late and not a player sliding.

ZERO chance Carr plays this week. What they're saying RE: the surgery is that it's better than first expected. In all likelihood, they haven't released a timeframe on his recovery for 2 reasons. The first being that they don't want it to be a distraction on the team. The second being that they actually aren't quite sure, given that the fracture is no where near as bad as initially believed. It's quite conceivable per my sources that it's closer to 4-6 weeks as opposed to the initial timeframe of 6-8 weeks.

Sunday is beyond must win for us.
No chance we go to Denver, then Houston, Kansas City/Pitt and then New England and win. All in about 22 days.
Everyone likes to complain about travel during the regular season. That is beyond ridiculous if we are to run the gauntlet without winning the division.

Broken Fibula... 1-3 Weeks... Been Done Before... Twice

Case Study #1
Tory James, CB
Broken Right Fibula
45 minute surgery on December 12, 2002
Returned to practice on December 26, 2002
Returned to starting lineup December 28, 2002 (16 days after surgery)

- Break was a fracture
- Operation involved a titanium plate to stabilize and protect the bone from contact
- Titanium plates allow the bones to carry more weight
- Titanium plates can only be used on fractures that are stable and treated with a cast / boot

Case Study #2
Charles Woodson, CB
Broken Right Fibula
45 minute surgery on December 24, 2002
Returned to starting lineup January 13, 2003 (20 days after surgery)

- Break was a fracture
- Operation involved a titanium plate to stabilize and protect the bone from contact
- Titanium plates allow the bones to carry more weight
- Titanium plates can only be used on fractures that are stable and treated with a cast / boot

I'm not aware of the Raiders releasing any details about the nature of Derek Carr's fracture. He is having surgery tomorrow... reportedly. The sense of urgency is encouraging and might indicate his fracture could be comparable to that of James and Woodson, leaving the possibility of a return in the playoffs. As a QB, he doesn't use his legs as much as a CB would... However, he will have pain if he does this procedure and returns. Both those procedures were done 14 years ago using technology from 14 years ago... Perhaps there's better technology out now....

Here is Carr's potential timeline:

- December 25, 2016 - Surgery
- Jan 1, 2017 Game vs. Broncos - 7 days post-surgery
- Jan 7-8, 2017 Wild Card Weekend - 13-14 days post surgery
- Jan 14-15, 2017 Divisional Playoff Weekend - 20-21 days post surgery

Wild Card Weekend would be an extreme possibility... Divisional Playoff would be a more realistic possibility.... We really need the bye week.

Fingers crossed.....

This about sums it up....

Obviously I don't want you guys to win a fourth trophy but what's happened after all that waiting is pretty awful. Hopefully you can find a way to make something happen in the playoffs, you've earned it. Is smashing the Pats but losing the SB a fair compromise?

It's ok. For 2016. That leaves the door open for winning 2017 :thumbsu:

But...much rather the whole shebang.

So what I am getting from all this Carr injury talk, is that McGloin (an/or Cook in GGs fantasy) leads us to 3 wins in the next 4 weeks over KC/Houston, Pittsburgh/KC, and NE in NE, and then DC will rise again for the superbowl with a healing broken leg and possibly still a busted pinkie (although surely that heals in the 4+ weeks he's not throwing a football). If I am correct with this, why don't they just give us the Lombardi trophy now?

Seriously though, call me a pessimist, and it sounds like the Carr camp is in a super positive frame of mind, but I still can't see him returning to the field at any stage this season. Assuming the leg is good enough to play on, you've still gotta go through the rehab to strengthen it up, as well as to get DC the confidence to run/throw/step on it without affecting his throwing and decision making. I would absolutely love to be wrong with this though. But anything can happen in the playoffs, and we're not the only team going in without our starting QB.

At least Edwards Jr is back now. :) And is Goodell feeling sorry enough for us now to reinstate #99. Please Rog.

They're not actually starting Carr are they? Surely the best option is giving him a week off, hoping the Chargers get up to ice the bye for Oakland regardless and playing him in the divisionals?

Carr won't and can't start this week. What they'll do is try to get the bye, and re-assess Carr's status.
