Spending huge money on FAs isn't that good if it leaves you short in other areas. This seems to be a draft with a lot of the type of players we need except ILB. The maybe best guy is described as a knucklehead.

McGloin is on a 1 year $ 2.5M contract that they can put towards Jackson.
He's no longer on contract because he's a free agent.

We roughly have 41.7 million in cap space. The draft class takes about 4-5 million of that space. So with the 35 million left, once you re-sign Mack and Carr, you're not going to be left with a helluva lot of room to sign any top tier guys. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of space to sign enough guys to plug a few holes and what not, but I don't expect to keep a guy like Jackson if and when he asks for KO type money.

Love the FA period, but doubt we make big splash signings. Smart game, but not as exciting. Jefferson would be great, as would Campbell, but not holding my breath.
If we could make one splash I'd do it on Campbell, but I'd be really happy if we could land either Gerald Hodges or Zach Brown, along with addressing our interior pass rush with a vet 5-tech DE who can plug inside on passing downs (someone like Chris Baker).

Reggie likes drafting guys with a high grade who have slipped into lower rounds due to some red flag -- injury or off field -- and/or small school types or guys with low stats due to unfavorable offense but have the right athleticism etc

So I think Mixon is on his radar

Mixon is actually off the Raiders board due to the domestic violence issue.

Saints' Nick Fairley: Excels in first season with Saints
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Fairley had 43 tackles (29 solo) and 6.5 sacks in 16 games in 2016.

After back-to-back disappointing seasons in Detroit and St. Louis, respectively, Fairley signed with New Orleans this offseason and returned to being a disruptive force on the interior of the defensive line. In fact, Fairley finished in a tie for fifth among NFL defensive tackles in total sacks in 2016. Fairley is a free agent this offseason, but he should likely start wherever he lands after his bounceback campaign.

We haven't been linked to any free agents. Jefferson and Campbell were never targets. Bennett is getting interest from bunch of items but not Raiders.

Im guessing Reggie is considering a trade for Sheldon Richardson.
Just because we're not publicly linked doesn't mean we haven't gone after guys. You should know by now that RM is very quiet in his approach.

Zero truth to RM considering a Richardson trade right now.

Raiders want Menelik Watson and Perry Riley back. Rivera is gone (bye bye).

As for Murray, I've been told that the Raiders want the opportunity to potential match any deal Murray gets on the market. A source extremely close to Murray has told me that Murray is 'pessimistic' about the chances of him staying with the Raiders.

Now, there’s a difference between believing someone will take Mixon in the second or third round and actually putting his name on the card, knowing the gruesome video of him breaking a woman’s jaw and cheekbone with a punch 2½ years ago will play on a seemingly endless loop on local TV and trigger backlash from fans, media and sponsors.

After speaking with general managers and scouts the past week at the NFL combine, from which Mixon was barred, it’s clear he’s already off some draft boards and in limbo on others. But plenty of people want to learn more, starting at Oklahoma’s pro day workout Wednesday, before making any firm decisions.

Raiders losses to date...

malcolm mcgee bates trawick hayden watson
Soon murray

Gains....

Add Nate Allen to losses.

But all this is obviously clearing cap space to extend Carr (and maybe Mack too).

Plus you never know, cap space to bring in Richardson too.

Clearing cap space? You can't clear cap space when those players are already OFF the books!

Are we concerned about leaving space for Carr, and down the track Mack? I know we were never paying Watson what the Broncos paid him (hopefully he sits in the medical room for them), but be nice to add some pieces soon.
