Obscure Players That You Remember

I remember Wayne Phillips. A wicketkeeper post Marsh before Healy. Made a century on debut, got injured never heard from again.

Robbie Kerr was another one I remember vaguely. Was never heard of again after his South African pay day.
Wayne Phillips could never be called obscure. And Robbie Kerr wasn't on the rebel tours.

I will admit I was young in the 80’s so don’t have the knowledge there. As my main recollections were more about the 90’s!

So my recollections of them are obscure, as I only remember thembriefly

I can distinctly remember Travis Birt having a massive shield season one year when he was 23-24. Thought he would develop into a test player.
Had a huge 05/06 but it went downhill pretty rapidly from there. 850 @ 50, to averaging in 30's for two seasons, to 100 @ 10 in 08/09, dropped and was never a regular for Tassie again. Had that stint in WA which went poorly as well.

Hit the ball like a cannon but a poor technique. Managed to hang around for six seasons in state circles despite not scoring a shield ton after 2006/07.

Had a good couple of years in the BBL in early 2010's too IIRC. Might've even got picked again for Australia.

In spirit of the post about Bradstreet on previous page and the gulf between even moderately successful state and grade cricketers, saw Birt a few times absolutely drill the living daylights out of opposition attacks yet seem so uncomfortable when he turned out for WA as he was semi-regularly at the time.

Dislocated his shoulder in the tied B&H final when the West Indies spat it at being forced to play another game which they then won playing only four specialist batsman (Gomes, Richardson, Logie, Haynes).

yeah was at that tied game.

I still remember getting on the train to go home as a kid thinking we lost that game.

incredible third final windies playing 6 bowlers but only using 5.
play 4 specialist bats plus dujon and 3 bowling allrounders and yet only one of them made runs and we still lost!

Your recollections are not obscure. Your recollections are hazy at best as you are confused of players you identified.

watching old highlights today. an seeing agarkar getting out for 5 first ball ducks lol. got out to mark waugh aswell.

he went on to make a test 100 yet warney never did. poor shane!

Looking though Australian Test players, saw leggie Peter McIntyre got two in the 90's. Pretty lucky to sneak in there just before Warne/MacGill crushed every spinners aspirations.

Made his debut with Blewett and the Poms touched us up, Mike Gatting was on the backside of his thirties and made a hundred. The Barmy Army were also born out of that Test.

Made his test debut three or four years after Warne. In fact, played with Warne in his first test.
