All our kids can play. The senior coach does not speak to the kids. He has a core 11 or 12 he addresses and the rest of them are irrelevant.

I bet you someone like Zurhaar maybe speaks to Brad seven or eight times a season.

I have been biting my tongue on this stuff, but I have heard it from two or three different places. It is outrageous stuff.
Just about every other team in the league barring maybe Adelaide have better kids/young players than us and that' includes Geelong, Port, Hawthorn, Sydney, St.Kilda and Essendon. It's not entirely a drafting issue although several mid-table finishes have hurt us, but more then that it's a development one or lack there of.

Can't hold the tongues anymore about this stuff, this is how we got here in the first place because power brokers hold the keys to the castle and the majority lays silent not questioning the authority of those in positions of power.

If we get through this season and nothing is challenged and brought to the club instigated any sort of outer investigation or board challenge or coach questioning then we are digging the grave further. 2017-2018s off seasons have come across now in retrospect like a back slapping backdoor handshake to keep this boys club instilled for a few more years while chuckling about the swindle they've sold to the members.

Well the wools not being pulled over my eyes anymore.

These are the two people that the rank and file should be looking to sway.

I'll go with

Higgins would
JMac would take a bullet or Brad
The other two are stuck.
One of the above two wants Brad gone.

Maybe I don't understand twins too well, but Harry couldn't be further from Ben from an athletic point of view. We got Danny DeVito it seems, or, as may be the case, do we just have a poor fitness division that haven't focused on the right training?
On this topic, at this stage I'd actually prefer Danny DeVito as our coach.

It happens when you've been in the hole too long.

I think you will find if we get on a winning streak then the vast majority of the people who are making noise now will go missing in action, there will be a lack of conviction if we start winning some games even though we likely aren't going to be any closer to success even if we were more competitive.

Anyway, we have had on-field, coach and board related in-action issues for a long time now, it is not like it has been a sudden revelation.

Are you saying 2 of the 4 in the leadership group want him gone?

If so then the players need to revolt.

It needs to happen.

It's gonna be painful but once done we can heal as a team and a club.

Currently we are no where.

What's your point?

A few wins and normal programming resumes?

God I hope not.

Wins are ****ing meaningless from here on out. It's too late to start back slapping and popping corks and celebrating we're not the Wooden Spooners, it's not 2018 anymore. The seasons ****ed 5 rounds in and that's on the coach, coaching staff and the club itself.

The worst thing we could do is scrape our way to 8-10 wins from here because it would result in a contract extension. It's a horrible thing to say as a supporter but the bottom probably needs to fall out on-field.
Yep, we should've had the balls to do it a few years back instead of the 'reset!'

Moot point because we wont.

Which of the 20 past years?

Seriously we have been between a rock and a hard place.

Carlstink have won 3 of the past 30 odd games or something

Could we sustain that and survive?

Winning fixes everything. We aren't winning shit with our current set-up. So , obviously, time for change -and revolution rather than reform. I just cannot believe how shit we are. It's soul sucking at the moment. Too many false dawn on field, too many bland bean counters off field: we do need a passionate former player to get stuck in and help shake things up.

Is there a reason a certain individual is running around unaccounted with minimal defensive pressure so far this year?

Then the coach comes out and says Cunnington and Anderson arethe only two mids performing to expectation

2+2 together. I think Shaun has realised he’s only got this year and next to have a crack

Absolutely yes we could.

There is complete apathy with mid table finishes for 20 years. That can't get any worse.

Competely agree. The majority of us accepted we would go down the rebuild route once the old timers were retired. We accepted it was a footy reality these days, but the club didn't have the balls to go through with it.
It's an out of date cliche to say North can't afford to rebuild....but now we've made it twice as hard on ourselves.

Longtime lurker, first time poster. Not sure if this is right thread to post this in - after all, there are more or less four threads devoted to the removal of the head coach - but just wanted to start us thinking about the means by which he is replaced.

I think we've moved on from the whether and the why he should be replaced, so some thoughts on best way to achieve it in a practical way.

As our chairman and board are comparatively low profile, lack gravitas in the public sphere and have said nothing so far on these issues, I think rather than just bunkering down until they bow to the inevitable and firing him without warning, there is a better approach. One that enhances their leadership credentials and reputations, pressures Scott to walk, maintains our financial position and doesn't set the new guy up to fail.

I think they should commission a formal review of the football department led by someone with impeccable credentials who is not a NM person - ie Paul Roos or similar. The review should be the full 360 degree review - taking into account the views or players, supporters, staff and any other stakeholders deemed important enough.

This will send the right message to supporters and create at least the appearance of due process towards the current coaching staff. This could be announced post the Carlton game. My assumption is we lose to Port relatively badly and probably lose to Carlton. I think the timing of this announcement is still OK if we beat Carlton - let's face it, it won't be by much if that occurs.

We give Roos or whoever two months or so to come back, which takes us into early July. Of course it will come back with negative findings towards Scott. By this time the board will be in self preservation mode with possible rumblings of a reform ticket far from a distant possibility. The most negative parts of the review can be selectively leaked to various journos (How much would Caro love to receive them?) ramping up the pressure for Scott to go. Short of a dramatic on-field reversal of fortune, his position would then become pretty much untenable. Board members can conduct meetings with potential replacements in highly public cafes to increase pressure if needed tipping off media in advance. The end game, of course, is that he walks ... then the rest of the football department fall like dominos. Ultimately, the findings of the review could be used to formally sack him, but that carries with it financial issues that we all want to avoid.

We then move to appoint an interim coach for rest of season, if that's the route we want to take, or a caretaker and appoint permanent replacement for 2020 season. I will leave it to those who know more about the game and potential candidates to opine on the best choice.

Having at least provided a semblance of due process and leveraging the reputation of a Roos or someone similar, the new guy can at least breathe easy that this is not a Mickey Mouse outfit that fires people on a whim (not that any of us would describe acting after the past 10 years as a "whim").

Bring it on I say. I think it is pretty binary now - the Board follows a process pretty much like this or there will be a member-led revolt aimed at their replacement or a supporters strike or something similarly messy and destructive. I think the current board has done a great job off-field, so that's not my preferred option. We don't need to risk destroying the club to get rid of Scott when there is a far easier way.

Let's get this done.

I totally agree. Full complete, independent review into the footy dept.

Write them a snail mail letter, in pen by hand, saying exactly that.

The more they get the harder they will be to ignore.

I've heard this about a number of AFL teams for decades.

Interesting stuff - I posted after the Freo game that there was something amiss with Higgo - he just wasn't in the right frame of mind - he wasn't the Higgo that we know.

Now it makes sense - he has some issue with the way we are approaching games. On top of that he sees that he has 2-3 years left at the top level and this will be pissed away with Scott at the helm.

What I would really like to hear from - through the scrote channels - is what does a new experienced player like Polec think of North's training, selection, match ups. If anyone can get that insight on the quiet that would be very interesting to hear.

If we get on a winning streak, play finals and look like challenging for a flag then we should support the coach. It will mean he's got his shit together and worked stuff out.

How is this any different to the Laidley/Wells hallway chat?

Disgraceful.
