If you do the actual numbers the Gender equality action plan quota means the club expects to employ 6 or 7 more women than it does now across the future. So its not a massive thing.

But I understand your concern about "best available person".

Here's a reference to a study.

Here's some quotes from it:

"How Stereotypes Impair Women's Careers in Science," written by Ernesto Reuben, assistant professor of management at Columbia Business School, and recently published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, reveals the underlying biases of hiring managers, and also demonstrates the cost of discrimination.

"Studies that seek to answer why there are more men than women in STEM fields typically focus on women's interests and choices," said Professor Reuben. "This may be important, but our experiments show that another culprit of this phenomenon is that hiring managers possess an extraordinary level of gender bias when making decisions and filling positions, often times choosing the less qualified male over a superiorly qualified female."

In an experiment in which participants were hired to perform a mathematical task, both male and female managers were twice as likely to hire a man than a woman -- even when the managers had no information beyond a candidate's appearance and, therefore, gender.
...
The experiment, done on both female and male hiring managers showed that when the hiring manager had no other information other than a candidate's gender, they were twice as likely to hire a man than a woman, because they incorrectly believed that men are more talented in science and math, the researchers found. This bias often led to hiring the less-capable job seeker.

"In some situations up to ninety percent of the time when a mistake was made, it was made in favor of a man," Reuben says.

Even more surprising was when the candidates were allowed to tell the managers how well they will perform; women were still only half as likely to be hired as men, the study showed. Unlike men, women who indicated that they will score higher that their competitors were overlooked. With these mathematical test scores in hand, the researchers were able to prove a tangible cost to discrimination of hiring managers.
...
Further versions of the experiment demonstrated the difficulties of confronting negative stereotypes.
When hiring managers were given information about the candidates' actual performance, the bias against women was reduced, but not eliminated, the researchers found.

There you go.

Someone did a study on hiring practises and found that without quotas people don't hire the best candidate for the job cos they'd rather hire men.

Bloody science and its left wing bias.

Science in action folks, you can't argue with that......We really need to get in a female coach once we wave goodbye to Braddles

You really have to question why Brad was appointed in the first image. Perhaps a more suitable female candidate was available but was overlooked due to discrimination?

I don't understand what you are talking about. What's going to be the home of AFLW ? Whitten Oval ?

Because if that's what your saying, good luck with getting fans from the North East -Eastern and S Eastern suburbs travelling to Footscray to watch a women's football match.

Its hard enough getting GoDees supporters travelling to Marvel to see the Mens team.

Imagine Hawthorn, StKilda fans travelling to Whitten Oval to see their teams play.

NMFC, by aligning themselves with Tasmania has massively increased the level of support they have.

You know what the problem with Car Mad Melbourne will be at W.O or Harden regarding redevelopment?

The "woke generation" has determined that your car is not necessary.

There are train stations nearby.

Oh yeh, our world class PT system

Looks like it’s going well down there reading today’s HUN-

TRAIN workers are being attacked in record numbers, prompting calls for tougher laws to protect staff from violent passengers. Packed trains, unreliable services and disruptions because of construction works are understood to be driving the spike in attacks, with reports staff have been spat on, punched and even threatened at knifepoint. The head of the rail union, Luba Grigorovitch, will tomorrow ask the attorney-general to extend mandatory sentencing laws for thugs who bash emergency personnel to transport workers.

Play on, keep building your freeways and redeveloping crap holes

MELBOURNE’S busiest roads are heaving under the strain of carrying tens of thousands more cars than they did five years ago. The car crush is blowing out travel times by as much as 50 per cent. Even a simple trip to the shops is turning into a nightmare as suburban roads feel the strain. VicRoads figures obtained by the Sunday Herald Sun show traffic volumes on the Metropolitan Ring Rd have surged by a quarter since 2014 with an extra 25,000 daily trips recorded. There were more than 10,000 extra daily trips on the Mornington Peninsula and Tullamarine freeways.

Have you any idea what the role of Football Operations entails? Please, can you tell us Kane’s failing in her role?

I’m asking this because I would like to develop a thoughtful, independent view on her appointment.
I doubt you'll get that. I doubt very much anyone of this board has any idea at her role and whether she's a success in it.

She held a role at the MUGARS, I believe we leveraged that in the establishment of our women's side. Which FWIW was a complete success. In fact if we could attract talent in the men's the way we did in the women's no one would b questioning who sh is or what she does.

The whole quotas thing is completely overblown in this thread, and generally in life. So long as there is pragmatic guidelines around them, companies arent missing the best candidates.

1) Okay, no one knows what she does.

2) But, you know "she held a role" and then extrapolated "a role" to a "a belief" and ultimately "a complete success"?

I think you had better revert to your own point 1.

I get you aren't into the women's team.

She did hold a role at the MUGARS.
We did attract alot of ex MUGARS into our inaugural women's side.

Which was a success given they basically punished us through our draft position because we were so good at attracting talent from across the league.

And none of the above has anything to do with her day to day.

Do you honestly believe this Mickey Mouse stuff is a viable qualification in the AFL?

The recruiting person at the East Keilor Cougars is better qualified for an AFL environment.

I'll point out again that Collingwood promoted their graphic designer to be the head of football operations.

It's a fancy sounding title, but from that we can assume it means **** all.

EDIT: Essendon have an accountant in their role.
In our case it certainly delivers **** all.

If we are going to select a new coach on form alone then throw everything we have at Clarko. I have a feeling he may be ready for a change. Make it happen Euge.

I could never see Clarkson accepting a position under the current regime.

He's too alpha. He's win at all costs.

On reflection and with some hindsight there may be some truth to that.

Snake Baker: 'Of course, what cannot be precluded are the general trait characteristics that apply to gender.

2) When you artificially increase the general female representation of a population, then the trade off will inevitably lead to a decrease in aggression and risk taking. In many facets of society this results in a wonderful improvement, but when applied to an environment like an AFL football competition, it results in a significant advantage to an opposition that retains those aggressive, risk taking traits, AND BOY, is it starting to show at our footy club.[/QUOTE]'

Hey, you all know how Snake Baker is an independent thinker wedded to science? And his repeated claims that aggression is a male trait etc etc. and that the club's problem is that we have too many females? And his expertise in gender?
Any science person knows that his claims above are controversial: that there is no clear evidence for his position, and that it is now a minority opinion in biology and epigenetics. Despite this he continues to bludgeon those with a different opinion with 'science.' Science shows a lot of varied positions - but it shows SB what he wants to see.

Sounds like it’s Technical Leadership which is meh

The Club should be more concerned with the lack of Symbolic Leadership

But then you do need both to send an email...for example, one email after promising more emails

What are you on about?

People in the hood are blind so they tell us to listen
They vote for us to go to war instantly
But none of their kids serving the infantry
The odds are stacked against us like a casino
Think about it, most of the army is black and Latino
And if you can't acknowledge the reality of my words
You just another stupid mother ****er out on the curb
Trying to escape from the ghetto with your ignorant ways
But you can't read history at an illiterate stage
And you can't raise a family on minimum wage
Why the **** you think most of us are locked in a cage
I give niggaz the truth, cause they pride is indigent
You better off rich and guilty than poor and innocent

That's woke.

So's this:

We act like we share in the spoils of war that they do
We die in wars, we don't get the contracts to make money off 'em afterwards!
We don't get weapons contracts, fellow! We don't get cheap labor for our companies, fellow!
We are cheap labor, fellow!
Turn off the news and read, fellow! Read... read... read...
