I think the Caulfield Cup this year isn't strong at all. Could be an upset winner...

Early thoughts for Caulfield.

A little worried about how much rain the track has copped or will cop between now and first race tomorrow so looking to keep my powder dry early.

R5#8 Isthmus happy to side with the race fit horse that has map and fitness edge over her two key rivals in betting. Dominant win first up and that horse since went to MV and shit in. Got her marked a little shorter than current market.

R6#3 Gee Gee's Mistruth. Form already been franked with Bellatrix Star winning last week. Melham got caught napping at MV and BS took the run that Gee Gee should have taken. Caveat is drawn wide here and not sure where she slots in. if they are off fence by race 6 i can see her starting shorter.

R8#14 Plenty Of Ammo Another we probably need pattern in favour to be winning, but market found her somewhat first up and she exceeded market expectation v the males in the inferior part of the track. Arguably probably should have won. Back to own sex here and fitter. I desperately want to save on Sky Bird, but she just has no early speed and that gate could prove a nightmare, but at current prices backable.

R9#2 Gentleman Roy Class horse that loves the T/D and has map advantage over main rival in betting. Thought Law Of Indices could be the blowout

The Cup looks thin. I'll probably back Zardozi and Land Legend and look to save on Eliyas and Buckaroo. if Deny Knowledge comes out i think it makes Eliyas task of slotting in a little easier.

Sydney is tough another i am waiting on until tomorrow morning to really knuckle down some bets. Have already taken a position on Sunshine In Paris and think the 2 blowouts are Private Eye and Steffi. Joiliestar too short at minute but could save on day.

how do you think the track handles rain? Flem can go from heavy to good on the same day.

If Sky don't look closely at Terry Bailey's performance after that call of Race 3 at Pakenham, nothing will change their mind. The last 400 and 100 in particular was atrocious.

Geez that's brilliant, makes your hairs stand up on the back of your neck. In an industry about the almighty dollar and prizemoney.. when you see someone show genuine compassion for the animal, the activists almost will want to forget that happened.

while it is a completely trash race that goes against the rules (BM58) if wise legend is vertical it should run top 3 at worst.

Unusual legacy looks overs at 6s first markets for Wednesday. Ford to Moreira a massive plus and he's riding 54kg. Got no idea on the 2 UK horses. i see Birdman been backed early though.

Moby Dick looks a solid lay bet in Race 8 too. Price/Kent going 3/32 third up since August 1st at 36% less winners v market expectation. In last 12th months 16/143 30% less winners v market expectation. Barber and Scheelite look big overs in that early market to me

Kinesiology $15 in the MV Cup a decent bet. Particularly when Birdman is $4 in the Geelong Cup

One of my horses Surat District is in the Geelong Classic on Wednesday.
He’s at $61 is facing better fields and it’s only his 3rd start.
For us it’s still way overs, he’s a Savabeel who wants 2000m plus and has had rotten luck so far.
I reckon half the field will struggle to run the trip and Surat is a great EW bet or top 5 in same race multi’s.
Trent was also saying the 3yo staying ranks this year are as poor as he’s seen .

I think UL and Herman Hesse are the best 2 chances, but find it hard to bet on this race.
UL looks like a no brained place bet, but HH has some expected value imo.

Beaten by Illinois who then came out and ran 2nd to the current Melbourne Cup fav, let's see how that holds up.
