I don't understand the comment about Starc. He isn't in the squad but will travel to the WI for experience??? So he might as well be in the squad then......

Very happy that GB is in the ODI squad.

Forrest in the T20 WTF? He isn't as good as Finch or Birt in T20s

Inverarity said in his press conference Forrest won't play in the T20 games. So not sure what the deal is there.

Also said: Cummins or S Marsh won't be picked in test squads.
Haddin's glove work in Perth was excellent and that right now Haddin is test keeper but Wade a contender
Expecting to take Lyon, Doherty and Hogg to the World T20

Forrest is in the T20 squard for experience only, and its cheaper to have him over there for the whole tour, Instead of flying out Finch for the T20's, and then forrest for the rest of the tour.....

Good squad. Haddin and lyon in the side to be acclimatised to the conditions for the ODI's - I doubt they'll play...Bailey just seems like 1 player too many for the ODI's....

Think Bailey is there as precaution due to Clarke's dodgy back history

Seems CA trying to save on money so they dont take Finch and have Forrest in the T20 squad. Bit unlucky for Finch, he has 3 MOTM (maybe 2) in the 4 games he has played. But with Bailey there is no room for him in the side so he would be sitting on his arse anyway. Again choosing him has captain makes the side worse.

No surprises in the squad, like Lyon getting a gig. Although taking haddin is a joke. Pretty sure he wont get a game so he should just rock over with the likes of Punter/Siddle etc. (or not at all)

Good squads, Finch unlucky but left out for convenience it seems. Bailey rewarded for good domestic form in 50/50 over the last few years. I don't unerstand why they persist with Lee won't be apart of the next 50/50 world cup and although he has a great overall record he hasn't set the world on fire this summer. I am far from Starc's no.1 fan but cricket australia would benefit alot from Starc playing some more ODI's over the next 18 months.

Hold up why is Forrest is the squad for experience but Starc isn't when he too is already going over for experience? Why not just name Starc.

Why is Forrest in the T20 squad?

They want to get the squad sorted for the upcoming world cup - why can't they afford another plane ticket and take Travis Birt/Quiney or Maddison over there. They are the official t20 best batsman in domestic cricket at the moment.

As for Finch....computer says no.

He is litearlly almost unplayable in T20. Lyon will get slaughtered.

Nothing really unexpected there.

No real point flying over a specialist T20 player just for three days, especially considering they would likely be the 12th man for both games. Might as well just stick with who is over there.

Great to see Lyon getting a chance in the shorter game too.

There was a reason for Hogg being left out...I think they want him playing as many games as possible before the World Cup so they are allowing him to play in the franchise leagues around the world instead. :thumbsu:

Such as? (Apart from the much discussed Forrest T20 pick)
At first glance, before hearing all the reasons for the selections, there was:

No Finch in the T20 squad, despite him doing terrifically well in his last two T20 games (MOTM in his 2nd last and then smoking them and on track for a big score, until he was run out, in his last one).

No Hogg in the T20 squad.

Lyon in both squads, despite not having played for Australia in either form before and not exactly setting the world on fire when I've seen him bowling for SA in the ODD's of late- went for 70 odd in one, from memory.

Haddin in the ODI squad.

And as you mentioned, Forrest in the T20 squad, which is concerning, as they mentioned recently that they see him as being someone they think will play for Australia in all 3 forms of the game, despite him being almost too slow for ODI's, let alone T20's.

I guess I just didn't realise CA were so strapped for cash.

That's all fair enough, as I said, that was at first glance, without hearing all the various reasons.

I'm not sure I've heard of an international cricket team making team selections based on wanting to save on airfairs, though. I would have thought we were a bit more professional than that.

It seems the CA accountants have been sitting in on the selection committee meetings for this one!

I don't buy that argument.

If we're going to play the games, then we send our best team, otherwise, don't schedule them.

If we're seriously not sending people to save money, then we've lost the plot.

Glad to see Mr Cricket back in all 3 formats.

Why he was 'rested' for the India T20's was bonkers. He came out and said he doesnt need or want to be rested.

I say lets 'rest' Dave Warner from ODI's - let him catch up on some gaining some cricket smarts.

Agree with the earlier comment about Brett Lee. Needs to get tapped on the shoulder.

I'd rather be Starc or as a roughie someone like Coulter-Nile a run.

Seems pretty well done to me, don't think there can be too many complaints. Finch certainly should be in t20 squad and I would have Starc over Lee, who to me is behind Pattinson, McKay, Hilfenhaus and Harris as a one day bowler these days, so why pick him at his age? I wouldn't have Haddin in there but Wade is still there and as long as Haddin doesn't play I am happy for him to spectate.
