I don't buy that argument.

If we're going to play the games, then we send our best team, otherwise, don't schedule them.

If we're seriously not sending people to save money, then we've lost the plot.
but we are sending our Best 11 over there. for any name you could come up with (apart from Hogg who is being "rested") that isnt playing, there are arguments for someone being better than them on this list. whats the point of taking Finch to the Windies when he is going to be a backup batsmen for 3 days.

Ditto with the ODI squad. we've named 16 people. 4 quicks, 3 alrounders, 5 Batsmen, 1 Keepers, 1 Spinner. Plus Haddin and Lyon who are Test specialists no doubt there for some practise. From the other 14 people named its easily our best 11, its just the backups that are a little unorthodox.

We have picked our best team. The selectors picked what they think is the best XI, and considering it's only a 2 game series there likely wont be any changes to that. So, I'm OK to not have a specialist T20 12th man.

Did Brett Lee run off with your missus or something....jeeezzzuzzz.
No, I just don't see what a 35 year old injured (depending on who you ask) bowler brings to the table. Hilfenhaus has bowled just as fast as Lee has with the aid of serious movement. He doesn't move it off the pitch, only swings it where it's pitched on a non-dangerous line and is losing his control completely.

We have a plethora of young, talented quicks who need time in the side before the 2015 World Cup.

:thumbsu:

I don't get why we need to be "relying" on him so much on a 35 year old that we play him when he has a broken foot?? The list of bowlers we have at our disposal at the moment is extraordinary, there is going to be huge competition for spots in the future so we need to be giving these guys opportunities or all this promise will be wasted.

Hilfenhaus
Pattinson
McKay
Starc
Harris
Starc
Cutting
Coulter-Nile
McDermott
Faulkner
Siddle

Then we have Cummins, M.Marsh and Hazlewood who have shown plenty of promise but are injured at the moment. Then throw in Watson who is a quality allrounder as well as Christian who can get through a few overs playing as a batting allrounder when required and the riches we have at hand is ridiculous.

Lee has been a good bowler for Australia for many years in the shorter forms, but I really cannot see any point at all in him continuing to take up a place in our ODI side at his age when he is a fringe selection at best.

Forrest's selection in the T20's is bizarre and unfortunately seems to be a decision based on money. He won't play anyway, but Aaron Finch and Travis Birt would be shaking their heads at this decision.

Lyon in the ODI team, why? He got carted in the final and hasn't really shown much at all in the Ryobi Cup. Can field and again like Forrest he won't play, but it reeks of another money saving excercise.

Would much prefer Haddin to not be there, but thats been discussed and will continue to be discussed until Wade finally takes over in tests.

The new selectors have made some pretty weird calls since being appointed and I have liked some of them, but I find it hard to get my head around why we are picking our sides with budget in mind.

As someone who believes that if you're going to do something that you do it properly, I agree with this. I mean having Forrest as batting back-up, when he might not even get into our second best T20 team (if picked on form and results and performances in T20's) is farcical, for instance. It's not as if it's unheard of for someone to get sick, or injured, on the eve of a game.

And if CA are that strapped for cash, which I strongly doubt, I dare say someone like Finch or Birt would be more than willing to pay their own way over there, for even the slight chance of playing for Australia. Especially if it means not letting someone else into what was their spot, in Australia's last T20 match, if there is a withdrawal through injury, sickness, or whatever.

For me, the question has always been, why hasn't Lyon been in the ODI squad before this? He is a very good limited overs bowler, probably one of the most attacking spinners in domestic cricket.

He wasn't exactly bowled at great times in the final, he isn't the guy you want defending against 8-9 runs per over - that's what someone like Doherty is for. But he also got three wickets in that game, including the huge wicket of Cowan for a duck.

The West Indies have taken to playing 2 spinners at times recently, so their wickets are pretty spin friendly hence the selection of a second spinner. And for me, Lyon and Doherty are the two best spinners we have - and they compliment each other very well.

Just said it on channel 9 news - hoping I heard it wrong?!

Nope - tis on cric info;

The fast bowler Pat Cummins will not play for Australia until the one-day tour of England in June at the earliest, after suffering a setback in his recovery from a foot injury. Cummins

Where the hell is brad hogg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He is litearlly almost unplayable in T20. Lyon will get slaughtered.

On hang on...its the west indies. Without Chris Gayle...
Lyon was voted man of the series in the 2010/2011 Big Bash, so maybe know some of the facts before posting utter crap? He was picked in the Test side pretty much solely on his T20 form. The good form of Doherty has been the only thing keeping him out of the limited overs sides.

As usual you get it wrong agenda-boy. I think a bit harder than just "oh it's Lee and he's 35". I actually look at performance. Lee is still the best limited overs bowler in the country and still still let fly at up to 150k at much better lines and length than before. Don't care if he's 35. The way he's going he'll still be bowling that fast at 38. If he's in form you play him although if he has a broken bone in his foot, as he does now, then I'm not so sure he plays.

2 of his 4 games have been good since his return. Had 0/10 off his first 6 overs last games and took 3 wickets bowling well in his 2nd game back. Other 2 games were pretty crappy admittedly.

That's all there is to it, really. He's 35, and there's no chance of him, with his career span of injuries playing while he's 38. I did get a chuckle out of that, so thank-you.

Performance? Mate, judge him on the whole series, not the games he's played well in. 5 wickets at 36. That is simply not good enough and if he's still our best ODI bowler then we're in some serious strife come the World Cup.

And for your information, Lee's line and length have been pretty bad, mainly when he gets tonked for 6 and tries to go for too much, but even the other night (where you say he had 0/10 from 6) he had 12 byes (4 of those came off the glove) come off two overs because he was 'Shaun Taiting'.

A 38 year old Lee wouldn't make the squad if they were picking 15 bowlers. There is no chance, I repeat no chance Lee plays in the 2015 World Cup. Not for Australia anyway,
