As he doesn't look like betting a Test, I wouldn't mind seeing Cutting get a couple of ODIs just to familiarise himself a little with the national set-up. He has to be in contention for the India and England tours, and ODI results count for nothing outside of the World Cup so I think its worth investing some time in him at that level.
From that side, he would probably go in for Johnson but "rotations" began in ODIs and will continue.

I can't see Bailey not being picked tbh. I would guess the selectors will line up something like this:

Watson
Warner
Finch
Clarke
Bailey
M Hussey
Wade
Maxwell
Starc
Johnson
McKay

Really all depends on whether Finch is picked or not. If he isn't, everyone probably moves up one (Bailey and Hussey probably swap) and Doherty gets picked.

I'd like to see Beer get the Australian limited over spinners gig, but I doubt he will get the nod ahead of Doherty.

Mmm I see what you are getting at, but from my point of view it seems that Cutting gets belted around a fair bit at ODD level. Not sure it'd so much for his confidence having it done to a greater extent in the ODIs.

We should be using it to expose a few players to the level, though; I agree. A list of players we should be looking at this summer include Coulter-Nile, Faulkner, Finch, McDermott and Putland. Maybe Richardson. Mainly seamers, so maybe we can have a rotating 3rd seamer policy based on whichever city the game is being held?

Hastings

In general that looks pretty good; I'm just not sure you can having Hastings and McKay in the same attack. Reckon we need two genuinely fast options with McKay as the line-and-length/slower ball cherry on top. And Beer, obviously. ;)

maybe, but I don't want Johnson to play any form of the game for Australia. Clutchland maybe

They'll probably use about 8 different bowlers throughout the series and with Pattinson and Cummins injured you'd think Johnson will be in. Is Doherty still the preffered spinner? Do we need him if Maxwell gets a game? Would probably be a good way to groom Maxwell.

I'm happy enough for Mitch to play the shorter forms. His dangerous batting comes into play as well.

Warner
Watson
Hughes
Finch
Clarke
Wade
Maxwell
Starc
NCN/Faulkner
McKay
Doherty

Probably a good time to move Hussey along, like our test side it is a struggle fitting our best batsmen who happen to be openers into the same lineup. If Hussey does make it then Warner will want to step up as Hughes and Finch are really pushing their claim.

Beer in for Doherty and I reckon you've got a good side.

Am I not allowed to think Beer is a much better bowler than Doherty?

The whole state thing doesn't bother me one bit.
Doherty is a proven ODI spinner with an average of 34 and an econ rate of 4.7 and a strike rate of 43. Beer has a List A average of 42 with an econ rate of 4.3 and a strike rate of 57. Anybody who thinks Beer is the better OD bowler is either delusional or biased.

Replace Maxwell with Hussey, and that would be my ideal lineup. NCN or Faulker are good enough as the allrounders, and Clarke/Finch can provide 5-10 between them of spin bowling. I have no idea how Hughes has never got a gig in our limited overs sides.

No need to move Hussey along when he is still one of the best one day batsman in the world, and can easily still be around for the next WC.

I've seen a fair bit of Beer in the shorter forms. Sure, I'm biased; but I like to think I have some basis for thinking he'd make a good ODI/T20 spinner tbh.
Beer could be a good ODI/T20 bowler but he's not as good as Doherty in either. He and Holland are competing for the second spinner in all three forms of the game, though I'd prefer the SO'K in all three

I think Doherty is better in ODs, Beer is better in T20s.

O'Keefe has poo stats in limited overs, doesn't he?

no, Doherty is clearly the best T20 spinner in the country, if Bailey only awoke to that fact...

He isn't clearly the best.

Doherty - 44 matches, 31 wickets @ 38.2, 7.73 runs per over
Beer - 20 matches, 19 wickets @ 21.5, 6.1 runs an over

Beer is the best.
