ODI Squad

You must be talking about a different Steven Smith.

The australian cricketer averages 21, has never hit an ODI half century let alone a century and is rightly so not selected in the ODI squad.

but he averages 36 in domestic cricket, he had a pretty good ryobi cup and a good test series. also, adds extra to the side as hecan bowl a bit and brilliant fieldsman considering Lehman wants to keep the side similar to the Test side.
but i would take
clarke, Bailey and maxwell for the middle order every time

You can't judge Smith's ODI record. He's a completely different player now, both in role and ability.

To be fair, hes probably going to bat at 5 if/when he comes into the national set up again.

As ive mentioned, Voges has more experience and has more runs on the board.

So Clarke said he's out for Perth - assuming Bailey comes back in.

Wonder if Patto will get another run.

If people will keep going on about it, Smith has NEVER made an ODI half century let alone a century. Smith is still young and will get his chance but with an eye to the World Cup Voges gets the nod.

Gotta remember that Voges was in the ODI team in India no more than 3 months ago, injury was the only thing that has kept him out of the side since.

Guess the fact that Voges has been added to the ODI squad and not Smith for Perth says lots about the direction Cricket Australia want to go.

Smith is already in the squad.

I think it mainly says CA are being cheap with who they call into the squad.

The conspiracy theorist will claim that this is to prevent the Scorchers from beating the Stars

If they release Faulkner and Maxwell back into the Stars squad I'll agree

He was a totally different player in his first stint. Raw and a huge bit-part player. He has turned himself into a batsman now. Since his return to international cricket he has made 3 test 100s and a 90 in India.

Oh the Scorchers are screwed, whilst the game means nothing to the Stars, the 6ers are guaranteed victory in their last match so CA will definitely be helping the Stars win so Sydney can get a home final

Then they will come up with some strange formula for hosting the final so it will be in Sydney also

After recent events with CA and the ICC, I wouldn't rule this out completely

Wonder what the XI will look like now.

Smith is listed as in the squad and I can't see Voges, Yoda_ can you provide a link to Voges being in?

Being lazy it'll probably be:

Warner -> Hughes
Clarke -> Bailey
Haddin -> Paine/Wade

The only spanner I can really see (barring an unexpected selection) would be if they opened with the keeper or Marsh, then slotted Smith in for Warner.

Maybe Wade to open? Marsh has runs at 3.

Wade, Finch, Marsh, Bailey, Smith, Maxwell, Christian, Faulkner, Coulter-Nile, Pattinson, Doherty

Wade gets the nod. Smith also stays in the squad. No replacement made for Warner so I assume one of Wade or Marsh will open and the other will bat at three. Smith/Bailey will then go at four and five.

Some of the f*ckwits on the CA Facebook page make me want to stab myself in the eye with a fork.

"Play Reardon not Wade"
"Paine is too old"
"Whiteman couldn't bat himself out of a paper bag"
"Where's Nannes?"
"I am begging you to play Hughes and Klinger, give South Australians a go"
"Faulkner shouldn't be bowling, he should develop into a batsman".

F*cking dumb Syds.

Someone suggesting Cutting as a replacement for Clarke (clearly only watched BBL).

Also:

"WA is virtually another country anyway. No one really cares about them. Is it 2014 there yet?"

"it's a shithole that is behind the rest of Australia. Move if you don't like it"

Hilarious stuff. :rolleyes:

Any one a Tim ludeman fan? He hasn't got as many runs on the board as Paine or a Wade, but is a good striker and very clean and tidy keeper.
