Why continue picking Marsh?? He never performs as well as he should and ends up injured almost every time. Time to move on.

I wouldn't have selected him at the moment, but he has quite a good ODI record really - 1490 runs @ 38.2 and a strike rate of 77, 3 hundreds and 8 fifties. Nothing to sniff at.

It isn't a bad record but I'd have thought Hughes has more upside. Oh well Marsh is quality but I wouldn't have picked him. Given how experienced our team is I would have selected a younger bloke.

McKay hasnt been looking good. I hope he can recapture some form for the ODI but I think we should be looking for another paceman.

He's just about first picked in the ODI team, you'd be mad to drop him based on the Big Bash.

Wasnt great later in India either, and has been impotent in the Shield.

His form overall is bad at the moment.
His last ODI against India was one he would rather forget, but his overall record in both ODIs & ODDs makes it's difficult for the selectors to overlook him. His economy rate at both levels is less than 5 per over, which is very good in an era where scores of 300+ are quite regular. His strike rates of 30 & 33 respectively are also right up there.

I certainly agree that he has struggled in the Shield this season (other than the first game of the season against Tassie), but in this era of horses for courses selection he is one of the first picked in the Aussie ODI team, as rightly stated by thorne89.

Yeah, maybe 61 ain't happening, but it is Australia v England and we're on fire, so I think it will be a pretty good crowd, especially if 42k at Etihad last night is any indication of the interest in cricket right now.

That is the big bash and it is at a convenient time for families. If there is 50K, I'd be surprised.

it goes live into Melbourne as well doesn't it?

I'll probably just stay at home and watch it, as will many others

Could be wrong but I think so!

Of course it goes live into Melbourne. All Australian international matches on home soil are shown live in Melb and have been for I'd say at least a decade. Been years and years since we only got a couple of hours of the games at the MCG shown live, whether it be tests, ODI's, or whatever.

35k, given it's on a Sunday

I know its done for the tv ratings but I really hate how we fixture the games on Fri and Sun. Fri you have to take the day off work and Sunday you have work the next day. Would really much prefer a Saturday game

McKay is cooked.

Most half decent batsmen can pick his variations now, and he has been smited accordingly.

Prefer to go with someone else.

2013 ODI player of the year; Clint McKay

yep, seems cooked to me

What crowd will the first ODI at MCG get?
28,973. ODI cricket is a dying game and crowds have been in decline for a number of years. T20 offers more excitement and is over much faster, ODIs have become drawn out T20 matches with the fist half of the innings a push around to score at 5-6 an over and explode towards the end.

As long as people keep watching on TV, ODI's will survive. The crowds aren't as important as the audience at home.

Yeah I must agree, our most recent ODI series in particular was incredibly boring, what with those pesky close finishes and us scoring over 300 in 5 of the 6 innings, with two scores of 350 or more, not to mention India scoring over 350 three times. The sooner that sort of shit ends, the better!

Another horrible head to head one day series.

Can't wait for them to make 3 changes every 2nd game. You know because the games mean **** all so we can send out rank 3rd in line ryobi players to see if they can get some experience.
Do you really see us doing anything like that with Lehmann in charge and with us likely still aiming to get to no.1 in all 3 forms of the game?

If it hadn't been for us sending MJ home just before the 7th and last ODI in India recently (so that he could start preparing for the Ashes) we would have gone unchanged for that whole ODI series.

I'm expecting much the same for this series, especially with the T20's in between it and our next test series. I think something would have to go "wrong" for Marsh or NCN to get a game, so it may just come down to whether we rotate anyone to get Patto a game or two.

Interesting to know what Steve O'Keefe has been shunned from all forms of cricket. Even back when we had an obsession with selecting left arm finger spinners he was about the only one in the country not to be tried. Nothing wrong with Doherty's bowling, it's probably a bit better than O'keefe's But O'Keefe offers more with the bat which is always handy. Maybe Steve Smith and Ryan Harris a bit unlucky there, possibly also Cameron White.

Other than that the team seems pretty spot on. Hopefully Pattinson can get a few games in, feel that he may be heading to South africa later.

If we can get better commentators it would help even more, maybe Channel 9 & Fox can put together a talent pool so we can sy goobye forever to some of the crap ones that seem to still be lingering in the commentary boxes.
