Not based on recent games it's not.
If his team mates could catch of his bowling would be a lot better

How does that compare to the rest of the world?

refer graph in this article which shows how bad our death overs are as a team
I wouldn't have picked Pakistan to be the best of that lot. I must really underrate Afridi and Shah in the death.

Also shows how poor India are too.

Not squad related but the team's World Cup kit was put out today, and it's the same old as always

CA really has no imagination at all

Pity Mitch hasn’t had a chance to roll the arm over - if he could be relied upon for a handful of overs - would allow a more specialist batter to play over stoinis/green

Given Agar’s exit and Head’s injury - maxwell is an automatic selection as a back up spinner

Until Head is fit:

1. Warner
2. Marsh
3. Smith
4. Labuschagne
5. Green/Stoinis
6. Maxwell
7. Carey/Inglis
8. Starc
9. Cummins
10. Hazelwood
11. Zampa

Once Head is fit:

1. Warner
2. Head
3. Marsh
4. Smith
5. Labuschagne
6. Maxwell
7. Carey/Inglis
8. Starc
9. Cummins
10. Hazelwood
11. Zampa

The latter looks much stronger thanks to a better middle/lower order.

With our current team our strategy should be:
  • Start aggressively in first powerplay (target 80-100 runs from first 10 overs)
  • Consolidate through 11-40 (target 180 runs through middle 30 overs)
  • Press hard 40 overs (target 80-100 runs from last 10 overs)

With the good form of Warner, Marsh and Head I'd be confident at least one of them could fire most games. In which case we hit the first powerplay target and makes our middle overs easier. You'd think one of Smith and Lab would be able to get a run-a-ball 50 most games, and then we just need some smaller contributions from our lower order bats.

Even if we can just score run a ball through the middle overs with Smith and Lab controlling, the above would get us 340-380 and then it's over to the bowlers to get a couple of early wickets and then keep things tight from there.

axe Stonis from the squad and replace with Lyon?

"But if Stoinis fails a fitness test for Thursday, then at least Australia can take comfort from the fact they have Sean Abbott waiting in the wings who is capable of covering that sort of role."

I guess Abbott can hardly do much worse than what Stoinis has been offering lately

Who the * is picking this team?

Carey has been struggling for months - drop him, send him home and try and get his mojo back for the Tests.

Green - hasn't done anything for months; why are we still playing him? Get a proper bat in.

We have 7 all rounders in the team, ffs sakes, why?

Our team is just a mess - stinks of not knowing what our best team is, and just trying to have a bet each way.

Bat Maxwell at 4 and you get your run a ball, instructions though just pick the gaps and push the ball around till the 40 over mark. Then play the big shots and hope it produces the good.

We just keep playing the same spuds, over and over again and hope they come good.

same morons who selected Warner for the full indian and Ashes tours.

they consistently select these guys who are out of nick. In Warners case it is pure ego to keep playing yet they let him. Carey hasn't scored any runs in months and months and his indian tour showed everyone he can't play spin at all. He averaged 9 for the series. Yet now he is playing a full WC. Its a joke.

At least Green has some upside ffs but even then he has absolutely no idea how to bat at no.7 in ODI, has no experience at ANY level batting that low. So why is he batting there? Its like telling Steve Smith to bat at 9.

What do you think of the decision to drop Carey for Inglis?
