I hate Barrett with every fibre, but we should've made finals. We didn't so that's that, but we dropped far too many games we should've won and in a year like this when the bottom 9 are horrendous, it made all the difference.

Anyway...

So if we made finals, who should have missed out?

Freo, really put together a nice list, good mids, rucks, pulled together a makeshift forward line, but it seems to work.
GWS, sure they are our bunnies, but Geelong is their bunnies, got the win when it mattered against other challengers, away from home.
Geelong, yep losses to bottom 8 teams in Saints, Carlton and also GWS twice, but did beat Adelaide, and got the other challengers at their country ground, best advantage in the whole AFL.
Collingwood, shopped early, and banked the wins, but definitely not a top four team.
Gold Coast, Darwin games against Hawks and Dogs, easiest of fixture, but it was finals or bust.
Adelaide, same as GC easy fixture, but a list that has been built since 2017, lots of early first round picks who have matured.
Brisbane, hardest draw, because of the rise of some other challengers, should be top two.
Hawks, have the ability to bring pressure when they need the win, I.e. Pies and against us, not the easiest draw either, deserve to be there.

We should have made the finals this year but we did not due to things within our control- tweaking the defensive set up, not selecting people who were not contributing in previous matches.

What he is saying is total garbage - 2 players do not make a team . Every team has 2 guns - it’s a pathetic vindictive load of rubbish statement that is line with what he said for the previous 23 rounds in his if then vomit column

Not sure JJ offers much now, was found out against the Dockers. Always has been poor defensively which is our biggest issue. May have lost a yard of pace. Will be a tough list decision and could go either way.

Would keep JJ as depth. As long as he knows before signing the 1y contract that he will play most of the year in the VFL and will only be called up in case of injuries or emergencies.

I don't know if I would say I'm excited about delisting players, Im excited with what Sammy P can sign with our decent salary cap.
The only goal the club should have, sign/draft/trade/delist players that make the doggies contenders.

They still might have decided now that Bevo was the right man for the job and given the extension. They might have moved him on

Either way I could live with the decision knowing it was made with all facts on hand. Rushing into an extension was just so dumb and unnecessary and it's the second time we've made it. If we were a serious club we would have waited

Would never have happened. It would be completely against Bevo’s moral code to talk to another club before his future was settled with us

And even if it did, big deal. We were coming off three years of below par performances, so what if he decided to pull the pin? It’d be easier for the club to move forward if he decided to move on, rather than pushed out anyway. We were jumping at shadows

Weakest effort I’ve seen for some time and I’ve seen heaps of weak efforts by this club at clutch times.
A game that was put on a platter for us and massively crumpled.

In the end, nothing else mattered by that final game. Win that and the whole 'narrative' around us changes. Into finals probably win first week against the Giants or Suns at home and then who knows from there? But, it's all spilt milk now.

That’s true. I’d argue we would’ve blown a final v GC or GWS though.
The point is we shat the bed on coach signing, we have serious form in dropping games at the end of the season as favourites, we’ve never been top 4 in this regime, we get beaten the same way every time, our bottom 6 are pretty awful, we are defensively the worst team in the league.
We have seriously underperformed with the list we’ve had.
I’m very disappointed, more disappointed than any other year other than 2017 to be honest.

Of course “we would’ve blown a final” we blew won last weekend. We’ve won finals in only 2 final series under Bevo. And only 2 elimination finals. One beautiful game in Perth and lucky to get the Bombers in Tassie.
Something needs to change before we waste Bonts career.

Plus Bont couldn’t have done anymore v Freo. Talk about Herculean performances, that was right up there with his best.
Unfortunately the other pansies won’t go on the same journey with him.

JOD has to upgraded as well, so that's another list spot. Plus we took an extra player in the mid season draft with the Weightman injury.

I'd say we bring in 3 in the draft and 2 trades. That means we need at least 7 off the list due to the above. I think this is the most likely players gone
