The Victorians breath a sigh of relief.

I don't really subscribe to the whole 'didn't get opportunities in SA'. Firstly his average is horrible, secondly he's unavailable for basically half the season just look at how much FC cricket Alex Carey has played the last 2 seasons.
Honestly I wouldn't have minded the pick up if it actually happened. He's a great ODD spinner, we'd have paid him zilch and he'd lift the standard of Grade cricket.

He is but how many states recruit based on 6 basically meaningless ODD matches?

Tasmania has pretty much won the battle to sign Peter Siddle for next season and we also are most likely going to sign Darcy Short as well.

Who bats 3? Doran? Wakim? Not a bad side otherwise
Wakim is my guess, definitly looks like a good batsman and I wouldn't rule out the young spinner Mac Wright getting a go in the shield side too, obviously his batting has been where he has really done well.

I'm guessing Ellis will be preferred over both now. 18 wickets in his first two matches at the end of last season.

Meredith played in the Aus A game at the start of the summer prior to injury, when fit he's a lock. Tough to pick 4 from Bell/Siddle/Bird/Meredith/Ellis

Hmm alright. I don't rate Meredith with the red ball. His record is pretty ordinary so far. Got absolutely pasted in the Aus A match too from memory

yeah he got pasted, 2/105 off 18 in the first innings, 0/30 off 6 in the 2nd.
His red ball record isn't too bad (avg of 31.8), but not exactly a lock

Beats me why he even got picked in that. Surely a gut feel pick rather than anything else, certainly not a top 10-15 red ball quick in the country imo.

Silk and Doolan have been pretty good for Tasmania as openers, once you factor in 5 games down at Bellerive. I would be shocked to see Short open at Shield level, given how bowler friendly 5 games at Hobart is. He would be much more suited to batting 3 or 4 I would have thought.

Great acquisition for tassie - he will also bowl alot more as our main spinner (with a few overs from Webster at times).

Paul Amy has said a Queensland quick with Shield experience is heading to premier cricket. I suspect it's Doggett.

NCN is a walk up start in ODD at every state. I'd definitely take him.
A lot of white ball players fall between the cracks now.

Since CA have raped the one day comp anyway there would almost be a case to just do the 50 over stuff with the big bash franchises rather than the states.

Yep the one day comp is a joke, just play the games on postage stamps

Victoria are going to struggle without Siddle
Tremain is the bigger loss IMO. Yeah he had an average season but is in his prime and can seriously bowl.

I think we might see more of a turning deck at the Junction this year with Parker and Holland possibly working in tandem.

Agree on Tremain. I’m really disappointed that he’s gone
