Not sure I'd ever be quite game enough to actually try and pick one up..
Yeah it is. I took about 10 photos of it on the ground but couldn't get it to look at the camera.
My kids all used to hold them when they were young. Even used to cuddle them against their chest like a kitten.

We've had some very tame lizards- if you handle them a few times, they do get used to it.
I remember one of the kids giggling because the lizard's tongue was tickling her neck- the lizard does a lot of investigating with its tongue. It comes out long and narrow to "feel" things but to drink, the tongue becomes short and stubby.
Fascinating little buggers.

Oh- and I got bitten for the first time last year. I put a lizard under the mulberry tree to eat some fruit and it was hissing at me, so I thought I'd tempt it with a mulberry. I reached over next to it to pick up a lovely juicy piece of fruit and the next thing I knew, I had a lizard hanging off my finger!!
