When Mtv started in 1981 they wouldnt play any back music not even Michael Jackson.
Took the following year for mtv to play billie jean.
They thought back music was not rocky enough these days Mtv is filled with
bieber and taylor swift songs.

Helped Run DMC to be come mainstream.
Also paved the way for hip hop music.
That video with Areosmith breaking down the wall also brokedown walls of a differnt kind backs and whites listening to each others music.

Noo Yawk speed metallers Anthrax helped Public Enemy get more cross-genre acceptance too with this song from 1991;

MTV is actually NOT filled with any music at all. The actual channel on Foxtel has shows like Geordie Short etc :p
It used to be so different. It was actual Music Television. There used to be a metal segment called Headbangerz Ball, and when the clips were rolling it was rad. Then someone came up with a metalhead cartoon called Beavis & Butthead. The cartoon itself was cool, but it gave baaad ideas to the suits in MTV marketing.

"Why don't we ditch the music altogether and have, like, reality TV? The kids will love it!"

MTV as it is today was born. And its shit:thumbsdown:
