Re son: Now physically okay, but no one ever recovers from that, a completely unprovoked assault, walking with his girlfriend, also struck. I applaud the media coverage, and courage, of the poor Sydney boy's parents on 60 minutes. They wanted to honour their son. So for all the scummy things they do to chase a story, occasionally they might do some good. Unfortunately that's what they quote at newly grieving people, so it's catch 22.

It's quite scary how they (the ads) can read your PC history, invasion of privacy really.
Good idea to employ an https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/account/upgrades ;) and something like Ghostery.

Yes, it is an invasion of privacy- but all websites gather information on what sites you've visited, etc. It's supposedly to make your visit faster the next time  but I know what they're up to! My word I do!! They're spying on me!

Facebook are/were in trouble over in the US for doing just this, recently, I believe.

We had a terrible situation when my son was in Year 12. Three of his friends died and another 2 were badly injured when one of the boys hit a tree with his car one night. (he wasn't drink driving- just hit a dip in the road too fast, veered over the other side of the road, popped his tyre, lost control, veered into a huge gumtree and wham!). The whole school was crying, teachers included, and the frigging media were staked out in the bushes- all spy-like- with their frigging telephoto lenses and all, photographing and videoing the teachers and kids through the classroom windows for the frigging 6pm news.
They staked out the kids' families' houses and they even put large white magnetic stickers over the logos on the doors of their cars, parked down the road at the primary school, and snuck through there to get their stories.

Fricken slimeballs, vultures, ectoplasms!!

This is just one of the reasons that I hate reporters and newscrews so much. They left their hearts outside the door of the Uni when they went into Journalism 101 classes, sadly.

(got a bit sidetracked- guess I was trying to say that it's OK to cry if everyone's doing it- if one person does it, for whatever reason, it becomes awkward.)
That is a sad thing to hear. Was this the incident on Vahland Ave?

Yeah- just crossing High Road, where there was a huge dip as you go through the lights. Have you seen those trees? They're frigging massive! Any other little 1' wide trunked gum and they'd've been OK :(

Chief put a link up the top of BF regarding this, didn't he? Can't see it now but was just looking for it to give to Play it Sam
I don't recall Chief promoting adblockers. I imagine that would be counter-productive to his revenue-raising efforts. He did have a link to PIA, which is a VPN service.

Yes it was more a link to the info-gathering side of things, not the ad blockers as such. Play it Sam was concerned about that, I think.

Talking of the new Princess/Prince that is coming, when I was born , I was so ugly, that the doctor slapped my mum , instead of me. :$
haha!! :)

What book/s are you reading atm, CM?? I know you've been following some series on TV/video or something but I also know you like books.
I've picked up Whatsisface McCall Smith's No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency again- I think it must be book 10 or something ... really enjoy the humour in those books. You might like them if you haven't already read them.

Which I am currently considering. Currently experimenting with vpn free trials to see how good some of the others are...

Read most of them . Not reading a lot at the moment . Finished a couple of tv series, now looking for more. Also on another thread somewhere The Pacific, and Band of Brothers were talked about . Will look for them as well.
And AHEM " Some series or something " my dear, was the wonderful West Wing . So annoying to finish that :( BUt .... watching next the tv series of Robin Hood , starring Jonas Armstrong, and Richard Armitage as Guy of Gisbourne . Saw it about 10 years ago when it was on tv. Found it again today I wonder what other series are good to hunt for? Where is Cattery when he is needed? I remember him saying I was in for a treat with the West Wing.

Lewis has just flattened Goldstein in the Hawks/Norf game.

Hodge did a full forearm to the throat of a Norf player earlier- hope that is looked at by the MRP 'cos I'd hate such thuggery to be condoned  by them again.

Anyone watching the game? It's pretty heated!

Hawks aren't worried- they have GWS, Melb, Syd then GCFC lined up- they can afford for their players to have 2 weeks off.
Goldstein is up with a split near his eye :(

I can't help you with TV shows or movies- you'll have to consult our dear friend, SquishyKitty She is the queen of movies and TV shows.

Have you read the Band of Brothers book?

oops- meant to ask if you knew where the AFL book forum is?

I'm not aware of any ox jokes( I do know of a particular cow from Minsk) what's the joke?
Just went and searched it out but could only find a donkey. Donkey, ox- not much difference! ;)

It's more one of life lessons than it was a joke.

One day, a donkey fell into a pit. The animal cried and whined for hours while his owner tried to figure out what to do. Finally, the farmer decided that since the animal was old, and the pit needed to be covered up anyway, he'd just bury the old donkey right there. He got a shovel and started filling in the pit. The donkey kept up its wailing, but then fell silent. After an hour of furious shovelling, the farmer paused to rest. To his amazement, he saw his old donkey jump out of the pit and trot away!

At first, when the donkey realized what was happening, he cried even more piteously. But then the wise animal hit on a plan. As each spadeful of dirt hit his back, the donkey would shake it off and take a step up on the growing mound of earth. Eventually, the mound grow high enough for him to jump out of the pit.

Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the pit well is to shake it off and take a step up. We can get out of the deepest pits by not stopping and never giving up. Just shake it off and take a step up.

The book I was talking about is what the TV series was based on, I believe. Don't know a lot about it, but heard that or read it somewhere.

Skinflint!

I can turn off my cookies for a lot of stuff- just need to have a look at doing it one day to see how it affects things.
